Partial Solution to AI Fighter Landing Crashing

Post by Bryax »

Quite simple solution to keep fighters from crashing on landing when your commanding a carrier group. Just go to Orbit Cam, and change the view to look at the rear two hangar decks on the carrier. As long as you keep that view, you can open up the Navigation, Engineering, and Flight menus without any fighters crashing.

Interesting. Thanks.
No more:
"61 fighters launched, none recovered" debriefing reports from the Archon any more maybe. :?

Ha, yah, however, I prefer a good cruiser squadron to a CVBG any day

Except at the time of that I was in command of a destroyer squadron (only other thing going - Operation Highland) at the time. ;)

Another solution is also possible. This one does not limit you to a rear view, but is also not 100% (neither is the rear view trick, as I have watched flights destroy themselves from up close). This involves putting your carrier in either a forward or reverse direction at approx 10 (kps, I think...doesn't matter as units aren't displayed in the HUD). Step 2 is to put your carrier about 0.5 degree NOSE UP attitude. This is usually enough to clear the lower lip of the landing bay (which is what they most often hit) but not enough to significantly alter the approach path that it resets the flight path.

Milo has re-addressed the landing issue in 5.0.1, so it is worth getting that to help as well.
