The Fall of France or NOT!

Gary Grigsby’s World at War is back with a whole new set of features. World at War: A World Divided still gives complete control over the production, research and military strategy for your side, but in this new updated version you’ll also be able to bring spies into the mix as well as neutral country diplomacy, variable political events and much more. Perhaps the largest item is the ability to play a special Soviet vs. Allies scenario that occurs after the end of World War II.

The Fall of France or NOT!

Post by blastpop »

Playing the arsenal of democracy scenario- first attempt was prior to giving the rules a good read and the second time after reading them.

As Germany I am unable to knock France out of the war in both cases. Are there any nuggets of information that will help me get past this hurdle? I am concentrating large forces tho it doesn't seem to help all that much.

It also seems that once the game begins a lot of allied forces move into France making it impregnable and WWI looks like it will be repeated... Maybe I need to play the Allies to get a feel how the Germans are played by the AI.

Any hints appreciated... [&o]

During Winter 1940 - take the Low Countries. Move the bulk of your INF, ART and FTR into the Low Countries while keeping most of your armor in W. Germany. Say 18 units total in the Low Countries. Then during Spring 1940 you take whichever area of France you wish. As you kept the armor in W. Germany all of your units can attack either area.

Ok, I did that in both games so I'm on the right track. Sounds substantially similar to what I did. Now I'm even more curious as to what I'm doing wrong.

Whats more, the Allies keep bringing a boat load of units into France, literally and figuratively. Upwards of 20+ units in each of the Paris and its adjacent area of where Strasbourg is located. I then went to the combat estimator and it gives me a 0% chance of success. Frustrated with the situation, I ran the battle- sure enough the estimator was nearly spot on.

Could it be that the Germans are not getting enough combat supply to their units?

I went and started with the 1940 scenario start and conquered France with no problem. As a matter of fact it was a snap. So maybe the problem is confined to what I'm not doing in the 1939 campaign start...

Make sure you are bringing in a tac or bomber to give you the +3 combined arms bonus. You will need at least 1art, 1inf, 1arm and 1 tac or 1 bomber to get the bonus. The intact French rail will almost negate this bonus but it is still better than not having it.
