Alienating Gamers

Post by KG Erwin »

The Gunny has a habit of pissing off people, and this has earned me some castigations.

Some were deserved, some weren't. Being involved in the 8.3 project while being a moderator was a mistake on my part. This is old business, yes, but some folks still hold hard feelings.

A lot of sh*t has gone down in the last 3-4 years, but out of all this, the game has gotten better.

I say what I think, always have. You guys obviously have the same right.

I'm ready to discuss issues, and I hope we can talk about it in a rational manner.

Glenn,

Actually, I think you are very tactful and diplomatic.

In my case, I have a definite bias towards strong players and against "armchair generals" (those who don't play the game very well and tend to talk about it more than improving their playing skills).  When a strong player, like VikingNo2 for instance, posts a message then I give that post a LOT more respect and attention than when an "armchair general" posts a message.  The strong players know how the game actually PLAYS, and they realize that what the history books say is not the same as how the game PLAYS.

I think I piss off more people than you do.  Heh.

Some people I can tell are strong players just by reading their posts:  Falcon (on the Depot), Korpraali, VikingNo2, Loucipher (on the Depot).  I've actually played against Viking and Falcon so I KNOW they are strong players, but I would be able to tell just by reading their posts even if I'd never played against them.
