Tourney Round 1 MrQuiet VS MikeMcMann

Post by mikemcmann »

I dont know about my opponent, but this game has been atypical from the beginning.

The initial two turns were normal. MrQuiet took poland and started the shuffle to take France. However at this point he went into Yugoslavia prior to hitting France. What happened after that was interesting. Only Hungary joins the axis.

Later, TLC and France fall and Italy DOES NOT join MrQUiet! The Med is quiet for quite some time.

In Fall190 MrQuiet has shifted every armor unit to East Prussia and launches Barbarossa a year early! He smashes into the Baltics and races fro Leningrad securing it easily! Only a small other paratroop attack behind the lines near leningrad.

At this point Finland chooses NOT to join the axis! Rumania however does as does Italy.....odd alliance sequencing?? However Bulgaria is still neutral.

The allies have had GREAT luck with trade agreements (I seem to always have good luck with them) Turkey, Persia, Greece, Norway and Portugal all are allied trade partners.

Anyway, after a rapidly thrown together counter attack in the Winter of 40-41 into Rumania that results in good German casualties and a few other movements to reinforce, the winter ends.

In spring, MrQuiet keeps the momentum and thrusts right out side the gates of Moscow. That is the only serious movement of German troops. The new italian allies do a massive bombing raid of Malta and 3 British fighters are damaged/destroyed as well as 3 German fighters. I still have a Tac bomber there and it harrasses Italian ships moving around the med. MrQUiet tries to sally toward Gibraltar with a BB and attacks a british DD. The destroyer SINKS the BB!! It is damaged in return, but it actually sank it! :) Great news! On top of this a merchant ship critically hit a german sub and sinks it as well! :) Great Naval news this turn!

The Russians do little but reinforce Moscow and Kiev and pray that it holds!

MrQuiet unleashes the assault on Moscow! IT HOLDS! The cost is high for both sides (more for Russia) but it holds! This could be the turning point! We have built supply enough for a hefty movement/counter attack across the front. We have held troops just east of leningrad and move to attack. We do not recaptur it but our attacking AA guns shoot down 2 bombers and a FTR! Plus only one German infantry remain to defend for next turn!

We do our best to cut off the salient outside Moscow. It has limited supply and an encirclement is attemtped. It is not successful but close.

We do not hit Rumania again but rather smash into East Poland and race on to Hungary which we capture and ravage. We rebuild some rail fast and ship reinforcements to East Europe. Now Mr QUiet has Russians in his interieor, Leningrad is gravely threatened, Kiev and Kharkov are strong, the Beloruss factory made its escape, and Moscow is secure for now. Plus, the allies have poured some supplies into Russia to aid the defense (while Russia pours some into China!)

If someone can tell me how to do a screenshot I will do it! :)

All of this is going on in Russia and Europe while Japan is pounding Chinese factories and little else. Japan has built up to 8 carriers which is concerning.....

More later and if someong helps me with Screenshots.... ;)

Yep I think I 'screwed the pooch' taking Yugo before Romania was pro axis.
Lesson learned.
Not looking good for the axis this game.

The number of auto hits the allies are getting almost makes me think I have a buged computer as this happens with most of my allied opponents. It sure seems way higher then 1 in 20.

A lone transport sank a elite 3/3 sub with auto hit, what the hell are the chances of that??
A lone light fleet sinks and destroys a heavy fleet again with auto hit.
A lone tac on malta sinks a heavy fleet in opfire again with auto hit.

All in the same turn.

Anyway I do belive Mike will getting to round 2.
Good Job Mike.

heheh...thanks, but it isnt over tell the weight challenged lady sings! [;)]

You are an amazing and wily opponent and my own fear of your sneakiness may be my undoing! heheh! [:D]

Although, you have played me a couple times and have seen my amazing luck with trade agreements! hehehe! Maybe that luck rubbed off on my critical hitting! HAHA!

Great salavage though of a bad situation MrQ!

Later

more AAR as the war unfolds. Feel free to post as well. I will post sensitve images and data and just put a notice before there is secret info. I trust you will not read/look and I will do the same if you choose to post as well.

You can judge from him starting to write an AAR that he thinks he might need the points for it! [:D] [;)]

Sounds like an interesting and unusual game that you have going there, have fun you two!

Hmm, that should be impossible. I believe the auto-hit only allows a 'damaged' result, not destroyed. Or do you mean 'sank' as in taking a hit?

I lost a unit due to an auto-hit recently (CAG killed by a bomber...). It is possible when target evasion is reduced as the auto-hit impact seems to be calculated with the unmodified evasion attribute. This might not be intended though.

You are correct, I meant damaged, still hurts to lose elite sub fleet to what should have been an easy victory over the lone transport fleet. But the auto hit is one of the things that does make the game more tense and less of a mathematician game so in that respect I love the rule. I suppose it is very possible to have happened in reality that a transport fleet catches a break against an elite sub fleet.

Now on this last turn I decide to get my Jap bombers a bit more exp. Since all of China's sweat shops are already burning, I decide to let them practice one at a time against a lone militia with no flak. I have 4 heaves ready but decide to send them in one at a time.

Guess what?
The first flight goes in as a vet and comes out damaged due to auto hit. OUCH! Embarrassing!
But at least they accomplished there silly mission and destroyed the Chinese militia unit.

Mike the turn is in the Mail.
Russian Front a bit more stabilized

Well, Bill as usual rallied from a desperate situation to stabilize and even capitalize on a bad time......here is the Russian front after a whirling melee of fighting. Note, Bill launched Barb. Very early....

Ok, here is my attempt at useing paint.
Here is the world at the end of Axis Fall42

Japan has finaly started to show an aggresive attitude.

Image

I did make an attempt to take Java this turn with 1 inf supported by a HF + LF.
The lone militia (must have been supplied) rolled incredible dice damageing the inf.

Last picture this turn
Mike has built 35 Artillary units tecked up to 9LA.
That is surely going to cause some problems.
My fault though, I should have done more damage to his production.

East Front Spring43

Note Caucus falling to sneak attack in the winter 43 by highly trained elite Italian Mil.
Lennigrad was abandoned last turn, I could have held it but would have been surounded and I needed the units to help defend the motherland.

Sending one mil north into Northern Russia finaly prompted the Finns to join the Axis.
They were given orders to take and hold Allied leaning Norway in the spring which they acomplished with ease.

Lastly, I invaded poor allied leaning Saudi Arabia in an effort to secure more resources as we grind foward to a favorable high water mark.
