Invading Finland

Post by kondor »

I have a question...
Is it possible to amphibiously invade Finland from the north sea (atlantic)?
I can tell from the map is it connected too the north sea?

It is possible, just remember, unlike in the original WaW, you now need the correct # of amphibious points in every sea region to the target region. So in this example, there are 2 sea regions, hence a minimum of 5 amph. pts are needed in both regions (4 transports usually)

Hmmm, I think you are wrong, Norway has a stick of land that separates Finland from the Ocean to the North (IIRC.)  Darn, wish I had the game open!

I just tested it.
Finland can be amph invaded from Scotland via Atlantic.

I do not think it is a 'stick of land', Christian. Rather, I believe it is a double border line for 2 MPs. However, I do not have quite the detailed grasp of the games Movement Cost rules to know how that affects things.

I believe the extra movement point caused by the double-line will further increase the negative evasion adjustment to amphibiously invading units. Hence from Scotland it would be -3 to Finland, I believe. First movement point is free, and -1 ev for each MP thereafter. Backup on this?

I think all amphibious attackers just get -1 to evasion no matter how many spaces moved. Extra regions moved through beyond 2 reduce the number of dice the attacker rolls -- but not their evasion. I don't think the double-line (for a 2 movement cost) adds to this per a quick check - it is based on whether the number of regions moved through is more than 2. The attacker loses one attack die for each additional region over 2 (including the move out to sea and the move to invade the land). Correct me if I am a little off, but I think this is how it works.

Yes, I was wondering about that myself. Is this die penalty anywhere in the rules? I couldn't find it.
