How many Diplomats can you use?

Post by Ridcully70 »

Hi :)

I've been starting to get into Gates Of Troy recently and so far have been able to grasp it all easily due to the excellent tutorials. But as I play further there's a question that has occurred to me. Most of the time I can seem to get only one diplomat active. Even if I have about 6 of them, I can seem to only select one for a mission. On occasion I have seen the "Send" button highlighted for more than one diplomat, but I don't know if this is a bug or if I've been doing something wrong/ right!

I've been pleasntly surpised by this game BTW. At first I viewed it as a kind of "wargame lite" for passing the time but as I've played more I've appreciated the scope for varying playing styles, and I've spent many a late night on the Grand Campaigns :D The interface and graphics are very appealing too.

Ah, I've solved the problem. The answer is you can use as many Diplomats as you have available. What I did wrong was select the diplomat first, without changing the city state selector. If you don't change the city state selector after selecting a diplomat the "send" button is greyed out, and I mistakenly thought that it meant that he wasn't available for any mission.

Forgive the OT question, but is Ridcully a character in certain Terry Prachett novels?
My only real quarrel with Spartan and GoT is that the Dips are too expensive for what they return. Too hard to make alliances. Great game in most other respects.

Mustrum Ridcully, Archancellor, yes! :D

Well I'm still learning the game , but in the short time I've played so far I've found some good uses for the Diplomats. The Trade alliance mission is a good short term way to get good deals on the trade market, and the Dipolmat missions to discover enemny troop movements is a good way to avoid any nasty surpises when trying to attack a town. It's not possible to discover if there's a big army in an enemy town without diplomats and their information can save you from walking into a lion's den. And if relations are souring with a powerful neighbour , then trying to impove relations seems a good way to fend off an attack while you're busy elsewhere.
