2007 Beginning Rosters for PS2007

Post by JonnieR »

Right after the holidays I start thinking about putting together the opening day rosters for Puresim, and I actually am confident tha t I can do it this year ( having automated the process as much as possible thru trial and error). What is the best way to assign the players to the various teams in Puresim?

I have initially set up a duplication of MLB through the sandlot process and I now have all of last year's players as free agents, at the same time I am developing a list of new players and rookies and guessing at their attributes. I will use the create player options on the player screen.

I plan to release a preliminary set of rosters the middle of February and a final set right after Spring training. Thanks for any suggestions.

I will just sign players as free agents on the management screen.

I noticed that the actual salaries paid are higher than PS 2007 allows for in some cases, I hope I don't run into a cap problem.

I'm not sure myself how to go about editing a complete league and getting all of the players on the right teams. I was thinking it would be a good idea to base the league on projections. I play fantasy bb every year, and I am a big fan of Baseball Prospectus. Their player projections are better than any other I am aware of, and they project minor leaguers too.

For instance I was just looking at their projection for Scott Kazmir, as I am Devil Rays fan. Kazmir is coming off a breakout season which included a 3.23 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. While conventional wisdom says he should improve, because his skills are not fully developed, Prospectus actually projects him this year to take a small step back. They have him at 4.13 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP, which is still pretty good especially for the AL East. That sounds dead on to me, and is basically what I had in mind for him this season anyhow.

I think if you used Kazmir's 2006 stats as a base for 2007, you would be creating a monster. He would continue to develop (he's only 23!) and who knows - might win the Cy Young this season or next. Now, that COULD happen in real life. But it sounds like a stretch to me.

If you are going to go through the trouble of creating an entire league of MLB'ers for 2007, I would start with a good projection service. [;)]
