crashes make game unplayable

Hi,

I just bought the game. installed it along with the latest patch but my cpu continues to crash regularly. i have an GEForce 6800, latest drivers. My computer is an AMD x86 with 1 gig of ram. I've included my dxdiag file. the crashes occur randomly within the game. sometimes in game, and sometimes in the game menu. can you please help me? Thank you.

I had to upgrade to a NVIDIA 7300GT to obtain stable play.
 
Does your particular video card support Pixel Shader 2.0? If not, that could be the problem.
 
Do you have the latest version of DX9?  I think it is  9.0c.

Yes, i've got the latest drivers. it also supports dx9 shader 3.0 is that the same as the pixel shader? thx for the input.

Yet again I shall point out that the game works just fine (a little laggy in large battles) on a GeForce 440MX. The only real bug is planets turning yellow at times. Thus any newer cards shouldn't have any problems from a hardware side.
Drivers however.....
