Saipan and disappearing ships

Battlefront features the power of battalion-level combat in some of this period's most bloody and intense conflicts: Saipan, Market Garden, Novorossisk, and Gazala. Players will have realistic control over their soldiers, with a tactical scale just large enough to make a telling difference in the strategic picture.

Saipan and disappearing ships

Post by blastpop »

I'm on turn 3 of the Saipan scenario and a number of American ships have disappeared. Are they removed by the game at some point? For instance on a certain turn or ammunition expenditure or a bug? If they leave, do they return at some point?

Thanks!

All units have a withdraw setting (have only seen this used for ships so far). In both Saipan & Novo the naval gunfire decreases overtime. Think there is one ship that stays for the entire Saipan scenario.

Thanks, pretty much what I thought.

After a few turns of Saipan I am starting to get "into" the game. Saipan is most interesting on a few levels- it contains amphibious operations, Naval bombarments, airpower, Marines, Banzai charges and even tanks. It is in a nice and small format to get your feet wet, as it were, and if you can handle this scenario, the rest will be a snap- they are merely larger. Further to that it starts slow and builds as US forces enter the map and the Japanese are brought to battle.

Recommended.

The ships leave as they historically did. I agree it would be nice if they all hung around, especially the Batleships, but the Navy was very busy back then.

I wonder if it is enough ships - how many ships are in each counter?

Pretty sure each ship counter represents a single vessel.

Each counter represents a single ship. Look in the unit display panel when a ship is selected, it tells you the ship name and pennant number.
