Amphibious landings (D-Day, Husky)

Post by Tonym81 »

Ok, I have significant forces on sicily, and some Heavy bombers/fighters operating from Malta as well. I have alot of Heavy and Light fleets of the south coast of Italy as well. I have alot of transports, with a 80/50 movement rating in the waters of the south coast of Italy.

I try to strategically move an armor unit, and infantry for the landing, but it says opp. fire, and shows some axis planes and artillery, I can't get onto Italian soil, if I continue the units get damaged and go back to a factory.

-I tried the same thing on Western france. used ALOT of Heavy, Light, and Transport fleets in the waters beside W. France.
I put 15 bombers, 2 parachute units, and starting moving infantry onto W. France. It says the same thing opp. fire, and shows 1 axis artillery battery. I continue and manage to get a few Infantry across without damage, but the I try to put more forces in, like some armor and it says illegal move? I have enough supply in England, and enough movement points under the ships! WHy can't I move more units in, esp. Armor?

I managed to get the D-day done in summer 1944. I have ALOT of units in England but can't get across the English Channel.

Thx for any help. [:)]

There are two things to know about amphibious landings (well, at least [:D]):

You need enough "invasion capacity" (the number behind the slash) in all sea zones you're moving through, 10 for tanks and 5 for all other units. Invading units need to start their movement right at the shore (anywhere in the world though), you can't use rail first and then transfer to a ship. And invasions are limited to x units according to the tech level x of your transports' invasion capacity, the limit vanishes when you reach 6 though (so get it up there!).

You can't really prevent defending artillery and planes from shooting at the invading forces, but if you bomb them first (in a separate run right before the invasion), you might damage or suppress them enough so that they won't hit your units. Using paratroopers in the invasion (as you did) helps as well because it reduces the firepower of the defenders.

Hope this helps! [:)]
