Thinking about buying

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Thinking about buying

Post by cyberwop36 »

I'm thinking about buying. Looking thru this forum it seems kind of dead. Does the game work in it's current version? Or is it broken and abandoned in favor of newer games coming out?

Basically is the game playable and learnable with what I've been reading about the manual? It seems like my kind of game. I loved the old Imperialism games. This seems like that on steroids. Does the the country/economy management stuff all work?

If they wanted to sell more copies they could have posted a couple of more screen shots or a demo or trailer or something. It's hard to figure what I'm really buying.

Does the game work as advertised?

Thanks

IMHO, the game is playable but not very much learnable.

And although I suck in strategy, well I buy and play computer wargamers since ten years ago ...

The game is very playable and enjoyable. I have spent hundreds of hours playing the game. The tactical combat is excelent, although do not expect much from the AI in tactical combat. The strategic game takes some time to figure out, well the economy does. The rest is straight forward. Movement is everyone at once, so you give orders and see what happens. The economy will take some time to figure out, and you will want to read up on "waste". There are some guides on this forum that are a real help. Make sure to patch to the most recent.

I really like the game.

I bought it and like playing it, especially the detailed battles. I think that is the best part. The tutorial is limited and the manuel sucks. There just is not enough information to help someone new play the game. However, you can learn through trial and error and reading old posts in this forum.
One thing you have to keep in mind is the game is set up to operate like its the early 19th century. For example, you may give an order for two of your fleets to move to the same sea zone, but only one shows up for the battle. A number of things could account for this in real life; like weather, poor communications, poor leadership, etc. The game factors these things in and can make for a very frustrating experience if you don't realize this.
My recommendation is to get it, play it, and see for yourself.[8D]

as a player when it first came out I liked it alot, then I was asked to be a beta tester on it, for the patches, and I have played many hours after hours of the game and I still like it alot

the only reason I am not posting here or playing more is I been beta testing the follow up game

the game is playable and stable, a great game to my mind (but then I like the system)

lots of options and levels to play at

the Ecc model will take some getting used to, but the main hassle there is the screens seems to show you want you could get, not what you will get, once you understand that part, it is easy to get to work

looks for some of the guides to play the game here (Raliegh had a great one on getting set up)

I'm enjoying the detailed battles. Although the random deployment is kind of weird. It's like every battle is a meeting engagement instead od a set piece affair it mostly was. First thing you have to do is FIND the enemy.

How good it the AI at managing the economy, developement. ect.?

I'm learning by playing. I've played enough of these games to get the concepts.

Its not a bad game but not a very good one.  The interface lacks in information (no messages about declarations of war! [:-]) and its true the manual is not very good.  Tactical battles are more friendly user.

greetings, the game have some light flaws but for me it is the better and more ambitious project about turn based games and napoleonic global (both tactical and strategic enviorenment) that are on the market, for me, a precursor on global strategy/war game it is hard to not have some flaws, i do think there are a patch on the works, as said or pointed sometime on the forums by the developers, it will add maybe detailed combat for naval engagements, If I Remember Correctly, for me, main problems is that my computer between each turn can make the game unstable, all to do is to reboot and problem is solved, and aside this there are a problem that if you save on detailed battle resolution segment onwards you do not receive the detailed turn report, given the length of the turns that common is much time the screen problem not is as bad, will be appreciated if these problems are solved on some patch, but do not know about it, aside this, is a very enjoyable game, simply i do failed to remember other turn based napoleonic game with this scope, as said previously, i think to make a game playable and roughly enjoyable is a great success for the games market,

I bought the game this morning and have been working through it all day.

So far it seems to be well worth the money I paid for it, even though I was unable to to buy it from Matrix direct due to the problem with the website. It will probably keep me busy until CA finally decide to produce Napoleon Total War.[&o]
