This new Commander's Edition of Harpoon Classic includes land units, neutral and unknown sides, an improved radar and area ECM model and a host of other improvements. Rounding that out are over 200 scenarios and the WestPac Battleset. Try out this great new version of the classic Harpoon!

The explanation of the differences is found at the AGSI site here:

uld it really have been so difficult as to simply say it is a simplyfied version? Some times I get frustrated that folks just do not do the little things. I was a hugefan WAY WAY back when the first h came out.. but times change and I just cannot see the ai in the above makingthe game interesting. thanks

Yes, it would have been difficult to say that HC is a simplified version of H3 because that in itself is a gross simplification. The H3 vs HC debate is treaded upon very lightly because players get very defensive about their favorite Harpoon. HC does things H3 doesn't, H3 does things HC doesn't. H3 generally has more in depth sensor models but that isn't true universally either.

Hehe, the best answer to Harpoon AI is to play against a human...
