Not a very good Pearl Harbor sstrike, hmm strange

Enterprise and Lexington are heading for a rendevous about 250 miles SW of Johnston, from which theyll basically sail around and wait to Join up with Saratoga

on my belief that DB will eventually send KB back to Japan or to help out in the Philippines i think i will have the carriers roam around, get some experience here and there and maybe do some good old raiding to gain more experience

i have absolutely no intention of coming to grips with KB unless i ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, IE, an invasion of Hawaii, which while hes capable of doing i dont believe he will, but i will of course not operate on what i believe the enemies intentions arte but what he is actually capable of doing

FROM: ADMIRAL MARKY, CINCPAC
TO: UNITES STATES PACIFIC FLEET
DATE: 7 DECEMBER 1941

AIR RAID PEARL HARBOR- THIS IS NO DRILL

This morning the Japanese launched a surprise air attack on Pacific Fleet HQ in Pearl Harbor. at least 300 enemy aircraft have inflicted severe damage on air and naval forces in Hawaii. It is believed that he employed a maximum of six aircraft carriers to achieve this. All US Navy carriers are ordered to AVOID engaging the enemy carriers at all costs unless otherwise directed.

I wont give you a long peptalk gentleman...

We didnt want this war, we didnt start this war, but we are sure as hell gonna bring it back to them, and put an end to it as swiftly as we can.

From what i can tell you of the Japanese, they will give nor ask for quarter...

Therefore...

EXECUTE UNRESTRICTED WARFARE AGAINST JAPAN, DO NOT HESITATE, SHOW NO MERCY

CINC, Admiral Marky Commanding

*knock knock*

Aide: Admiral Nimitz is here to see you sir.

Me[:D]: Send him right on in

Nimitz: How are things going sir?

Me: Not good, and relax on the sir stuff buddy, how long has it been?

Nimitz: its been a while. I hear the japanese are hitting us all over the Pacific.

Me: Hmm, and then some. Guam, and Wake are already gone. And theres, hah, well lets just say theres been so many landing reports that they were even saying that the japs were walking onto Waikiki a couple hours ago. Not true of course but everyone is goin BONKERS out there buddy. And we got at LEAST 4 carriers somewhere northwest of us roamin around blowin everything outta the water, or looking to.

Nimitz: What about Enterprise and Lexington?

Me: theyre heading southwest away from Pearl, theyll join up under Halsey and then theyll join up with Sara when she gets out there.

Nimitz: What else we got?

Me: In the area? Well Chet just look out that window...

*Nimitz looks out the window and seas smoke and fires stuill burning*

Nimitz: Hmm, how bad?

Me: Currently its not that bad, yes the battlewagons, or as you know how i like to call em battlebarges, could be far worse for the wear. Of course things could get even worse today or probably tomorrow if the japs decide to hang around and cause more trouble

Nimitz: What have we got to stop em from doin that?

Me: Pretty much zip old buddy. They smashed alotta planes out there, bombers fighters PBYs you name it they, torched it. And theres been sub sightings all over the place, we even got a report from the Ward that she sank a "midget sub" or somethin right near the harbor entrance. One of our guys said it was probably his imagination since the CO of the Wards new at the job.

Nimitz: Buit you dont believe it?

Me: No, not at all. If one of our Destroyers reporting sighting, attacking AND sinking a jap sub then damnnit they did, green CO or not. We both know its better to be ovwercautious than to be underprepared.

*They both look at each other, then out the window*

Me: Bad choice of words... very bad...

Nimitz: Doesnt matter we both know what you mean and this wasnt your fault, you just got the job today. Which reminds me what are you planning to do with Kimmel and his staff?

Me: Im gonna do somethin with them, im sure as hell not gonna get rid of em. From what Kimmel told me he was totally blind. They didnt even get the "serious" war warning till over an hour after it started.

Nimitz: So whats your plan?

Me: WE, are going to keep em off balance and hold the line, and only go head to head in carriers when we absolutely have no choice, and meanwhile those pilots are gonna train their tails off!

Nimitz: And you want the subs to discard the prewar doctrine?

Me: Absolutely, Japan is an island nation just like britain and you know what those u-boats have been doin to them.

Nimitz: Indeed. And since im a submariner...

Me: Yep, theyre your boats, all of em, every single one.

Nimitz: good! Lets get to work.

Me: Thats the best plan ive heard all day buddy.

*Mid Pacific Ocean, On board USS Enterprise*

Messenger: Admiral, this message just came in urgent.

Halsey: Jesus Christ and General Jackson! Captain...

Captain: Sir?

Halsey: Can you believe this? they want us to head AWAY, from the enemy. 4 or 8 or 20 carriers or not dammnit you cant win a war by runnin away from the enemy. Goddammnit. Change course to 140 for the rendevous point with Lexington.

Captain: Aye aye sir. Helm, come to 140 and maintain speed.

Helm: Aye aye sir. Course is 140 Captain.

*Pac Fleet HQ*

Aide: Sirs, we have a sighting report of the Japanese carriers...

Marky and Nimitz: Where are they?

Aide: Theyre 120 miles northwest...

Marky: Heading?

Aide: Sir, theyre heading is roughly southeast...

*The 3 officers look at each other*

Nimitz: Theyre heading straight for us...

Marky: And they wotn be bringing Christmas presents...

Aide: No sir...

Marky: damnnit, if we only had SOMETHING to hit them with...

*marky looks out at the harbor, looking at the battleships, destroyers and submarines, then cruisers*

*Marky, thinking: Cruisers.....*

*Marky looks at Nimitz*

Marky: Chet i just had a wild idea, its crazy and its stupid, but its bold, and it JUST might work...*

Nimitz: Boss?

Marky: The cruisers and escorts arent in that bad a shape... What if we sent them along with ervery sub we got out there, we know where the japs are, and we know theyre heading...

Nimitz: [X(] You mean send them out with no aircover in a SURFACE ATTACK?

*Aides jaw drops*

Marky: Exactly!  Look at it this way boys, the japs are coming again, we know where they are and where theyre heading, and theyll be overconfident and arrogant, and we can still fight, not only that but their closest repair base is thousands iof miles away, and we are RIGHT HERE. If we can strike back at em and strike good and hard we might just get lucky, plus wirth our subs and whatever else we got could make the difference!

Marky: Lt. Ryan i see you shakin your head. What are your thoughts, as if i cant read em already?

LT Ryan: Well sir, it is crazy and bold, but it just might work.

Marky: Ballsy, STUPID but BALLSY!

Nimitz: sounds like a Halsey move to me...

Marky: Indeed. But what else can we do but sit around and wait for them to be droppin more ordnance on us?

*Nimitz and Ryan look at each other*

Nimitz: Agreed

Ryan: Agreed

Marky: All right gentleman... Lets decide what ships to send? Operation Ballsy is a GO!

*Pac Fleet HQ*

LT Ryan: Sirs, we have the task force assembled, plus all the subs in the area are going to attack as well, plus 12 PT boats in 3 seperate groups...

Marky: Excellent.

LT Ryan: Tehyre ready to go, but for a question of whos in command...

Nimitz: Ill do it.

Marky: Hell no you wont, i know you wanna go, i wanna go too but i cant and neither can you so forget it.

Nimitz: Then who?

*marky thinks*

Marky: Presnall, hes a good officer.

Nimitz: What about Spruance?

Marky: To be brutally honest hes the same as you Chet, NOT expendable for lack of a better word

*Nimitz nods*

Marky: Well lets get the final preps underway gentleman...

Marky: Chet... ive been thinkin about Operation Ballsy...

Nimitz: And you wanna call it off?

Marky: Yeah, part of it anyway. Were not sendin the cruisers out. Theyre just gonna get blown outta the water and were gonna need to to screen the carriers and convoys, we cant go sending them out to death like that.

Nimitz: What about the PTs?

Marky: The PTs have a chance, theyre small enough and fast enough to do a good job of avoiding the japs fire, and they sure as hell cant get killed by torpedoes.

Nimitz: Indeed. So youre still sending them and the subs?

Marky: Yup, we gotta make some kind of attack to make em at least think twice about raiding Pearl at will. There will be another time. We cant let the raid cloud our judgement and make snap decisions like that. But at the same time we cant second guess ourselves in a critical moment.

Nimitz: Agreed

Marky: But lets see what we can cook up for the japs...

*San Diego, on board USS Saratoga*

XO: Sir, all departments report ready for sea in all respects

Capt: Excellent, we can finally put to sea, and see what theyve got in mind for us.

XO: Orders came through sir?

Capt: Indeed they did, indeed they did. Our orders are to sail for San Francisco, pick up additional escorts, potentially a convoy, and then either rendevous with Halsey and the Enterprise or to sail to Pearl.

XO: Hmm, somewhat... confusing

Capt: Indeed, but our orders say that the jap carriers that hit Pearl are still to the northwest of them and they appear to be getting ready for another run.

XO: Damn. If we could only get into this fight sir.

Capt: i know what ya meran XO, but our orders from CINCPAC say that we are to avoid engaging the enemy carriers at all costs, "unless otherwise directed"

XO: So presumably if the japs invade Hawaii well try and stop em? But not Midway?

Capt: It would seem so

XO: Hmm. I long for the day when we can launch a full deckload against those jap carriers sir...

Capt: As do i XO, as do i....
