David is working on 3.5, and he has that working on his computer using Vista.

Many games created prior to 2006 will break in Vista.  Part of it has to do with the installers, and part of it with the base code.

Wintervalley Software and Matrix Games are working on providing a solution for Vista users.

Vista support is a goal for the 3.5 release which David is working on.

Hi.

Actually, the interim solution is that the next update to public Release 3 (which the beta testers already have) is vista playable. Unfortunately, I only have a single vista machine, and I believe Matrix only has a couple. So to say we've not been able to test it on a wide number of configurations, is a bit of an understatement.

So I'm afraid I'm not going to have a good handle on how well the game actually works on vista until it's out in the world running on more than a couple of machines.

I know this much though, the game will require more memory, a faster CPU, and a much better graphics card to run on Vista as compared to WinXP. Vista itself is the culprit in that case.

Making it truly 'Vista Compatible' (with a Games For Windows Certification) is not going to be a short term thing though. That is probably a year off.. maybe more.. depending on how difficult (read: expensive) Microsoft makes the certification process.

I'm sorry you're having trouble though. I'm working to resolve the problem. I've been in contact with Microsoft about the problem and they've been considerably less than helpful.

That said, please double check all system requirements before purchasing a game. I think you'll find that many simply do not function on Vista. So you have to be careful.

Thanks
David

I'm not a legal expert, but a lot of what I heard about Vista (most of it elsewhere) makes me wonder if there isn't some antitrust law MS is breaking.  It seems like Vista was designed to suppress third-party software more than all of these "features" that IMO aren't necessary.  To the average computer user, the differences between Win95/98/Me/2000 are cosmetic...and XP has some new features, but I never felt I could have lived without it.
