RN Pacific Fleet

Post by Dixie »

I'm in the process of tweaking (breaking?) my installation of CHS, adding new ship pics and such. I have a couple of questions:

Does anyone have, or know where I can find a list of the commonwealth ships serving in the British Pacific Fleet? In particular destroyers etc and the RFA vessels in the fleet train.
Also, is there anything in particular that marks the relevant CVE air units as replenishment units? The only difference seems to be that they are listed as wings rather than squadrons.
I seem to remember an earlier version of CHS (?) that had the RAF Tiger Force as individual squadrons rather than wings, is there any serious problem in reverting back to individual squadrons?

Nice one thanks, I've been having a nose around there. I'm working out which CVEs were a/c ferries (11 of them apparantly) Some are actually listed as such, others aren't and you have to read through and find them.

The way to tell a replacement squadron is indeed that it's defined as a wing...

I don't know of any sites that have information on other ships than carriers. You already know the site with the carriers.

I based RHS on CHS at a time it was squadron oriented - and never converted to wings. RHS uses detachments, squadrons or, rarely, groups. Works fine. But in RHS I changed the scenario dates - at the back end - so there is no need for a Tiger Force. The game does not work right late war anyway, virtually no one gets that far, and if you believe serious studies (starting with USSBS) the war would in no case last that long anyway (even without atom bombs or invasion USSBS says it would have ended by 1 November). By getting rid of those units there are enough slots to have all squadrons if you want to.

Brilliant thanks.  I was wondering about adding in some Bay class frigates, they're going in now

Thanks for the info.  I'm fiddling around with some of the RAF oob, IIRC there wer some Indian coastal defence units flying Blenheim Is at the start of the war which I'm thinking about addind.

I think only No. 3 CD Flight IAF used Blenheim Is, seems that the others used Tiger Moth's and various other small aircraft (the activities of No. 3 are described in "Bloody Shambles").

Look at RHSCVO. I had a lot of help correcting squadrons from the Forum. The FAA is particularly hard to do - because units change names and change ships so often. But even in RAF I found duplicated units, missing units, wrong equipment, wrong dates, wrong locations. We have a lot of people here who helped when questions arose - so you might find this a useful starting point. We also put in the Empire Flying boats - a BOAC flight and a Quantas flight. Almost nothing in IAF was present when I began - and I have added every last unit that was operating during the war with planes of interest.

I seem to remember an earlier version of CHS (?) that had the RAF Tiger Force as individual squadrons rather than wings, is there any serious problem in reverting back to individual squadrons?

No problem that I am aware of. The only reason the Tiger Force squadrons were converted to Wings in CHS was to free up some sorely needed Allied air unit slots in the database.

Information about my WitP map, and CHS, can be found on my WitP website

I have some plans to remedy that [:)]

I have a book put out to celebrate 60 years of the BPF, if you are still looking for info say so.
It should scan OK and has a list of all ships (incl RFA) & FAA Sqns & their equipment
