How to use AV class ships

Silly question for all you vets, but what are AV class ships? Are the Seaplane Tenders? What should I use them for in this game? Are they just slightly faster transports? I think I can load LCUs & Supply on them, but can't really figure out how do any 'seaplane tending' with them.

Aircraft transports. Fighters, figher-bombers, dive bombers, and torpedo bombers only. The aircraft are not disassembled for transport when using AVs, as they are on MCS, so they available for use immediately after landing.

I send them to perimeter areas without air bases to counduct naval search. If you send them to a island, you can use a DD to fast transport some supplies to keep it stationed.

I prefer to put some AV into a bombardment TF and shell some bases with no or limited air cover like Dutch Harbour causing losses and distraction [8D]
