SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

"With The Marines at Tarawa" Download Link

Post by KG Erwin »

This is the entire short-feature that was shown in movie theatres in 1944. Most of it is in color.

This also features that famous few seconds when Japanese and American soldiers are shown in the same frame. I think Norm Hatch captured that scene.

You catch glimpses of an M4A2 and an M3A1, plus several LVTs. Other than that, this is an infantry fight.

To my mind, it's one of the best contemporary documentaries ever made. Very little was censored. President Roosevelt personally stepped in to make sure that the footage of Marine dead was not removed. I am fairly certain that this was the first time the American public was exposed to graphic footage of the price of victory.

You need something like the Riva FLV player (it's free --do a Google search) to watch it. Windows Media Player or Quick Time won't work.

(Note: I removed the Sendspace link, as this film can be downloaded in MPEG format. See below.)

Thanks, a great find. Just finished watching, I agree it is one of the best docs. ever made.

Also, get a free FLV player from CNET:

Here's the only downside to the free flv players -- you cannot watch them in fullscreen. That technology has not yet been developed. Nevertheless, the small-screen video is in excellent quality.

Parusski, I WILL say that the free Riva FLV player (available here : http://www.download.com/Riva-FLV-Player ... tag=button) shows better color than the player you posted.

You should give it a try.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
