Intro movie won't play

I'm running the 3.8.8 beta version and I can’t get the intro movie to play. The naval quotes appear very breifly and then the game loads straight to the scenarios selection screen.

I’m running the game in full screen (1280x1024) and I’ve tried it with and without the –t box checked in the config menu.

I downloaded it around Christmas time for the discounted price.  I did not do the cd option, only the download, and I've since patched to the latest beta offered.
