New Patch Question

Post by Forwarn45 »

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering when the new patch will be out. There are two things I am greatly looking forward to because they affect all games to varying degrees: (1) damaged elite unit become veteran when rebuilt (since they don't now); and (2) undamaged Soviet units in the first frozen area attacked retreat (since they become damaged now). There is also one, less significant error having to do with the Soviet first winter always triggering correctly.

Anyway, a patch that corrects these errors is on my wishlist. I think the problems have all been identfied. Any ETA on a potential release? I'd push for a quick informal patch release available in the member downloads. Other than that, I am very satisfied with the last patch and appreciate the support. [:)]

Actually it's in the works now. WanderingHead has sent it to Keith, and Keith is hoping to make a version this weekend. It will be released as a public beta (probably in the member's area) and will likely be out sometime later this week.

Good to hear the patch is coming soon - although it looks like it is slightly delayed! Keep it up. [:)]

Yes, Keith wasn't able to get it done last weekend as an issue came up. This weekend he got past the first issue, but found another with the save game. He's fixed a part of it and sent it back to Brian (WanderingHead) to fix up the rest. I can't say how long before these issues will be resolved. It's possible it will happen this week, but also possible it will drag on a little longer. I should have known better than to say it would be out last week given the possibility of unknown issues coming up.

This does remind me of something I should point out: unfortunately the new patch will be incompatible with old saves.

Plan your game starts around that if you want, but you probably shouldn't since who knows when it will really come ...

The status of the patch is that I punted back to Keith. As far as I know it is good to go, fingers crossed. I'm not sure what comes next.

By incompatible, do you mean the changes will not apply to old saves?
or that you can not play the old saves after applying the patch?

I think the game won't run old saves, so you'll have to keep two versions of the game installed on your systems if you want to continue old games while playing new ones as well. The major effort to put a lot of the hardcoded items into the data files is probably what is making it not able to load old saves.

yes, by incompatible I mean "the new patch will be incapable of loading and playing a save from the prior patch".

Outside of bug fixes, the major change in the new patch is support for mod-able political events. As such, parameters that were hardcoded now are in data files and get saved in the save file.

Since those parameters will not exist in old save files, the new code will not work on the old save files. It would be possible to have compatibility, but it would be a lot of work and allow for additional bugs.
