bug related to damage dealt

standard scenario =

I saw during some battles that damage was taken during the battle - by both sides. But none was dealt - neither by both sides.

as I've seen this already 2 times I wonder if you guys need a save still ... I've got one - if you want it - please give me the e-mail adress.

Another thing I noticed is that JB Hood got killed (a 3star guy) and the computer didn't ask me to upgrade a 2star guy ... I was waiting to promote Lee (he's 2star) - but the computer didn't ask me to promote. Does this mean the computer spawns generals into your pool at higher rank - Hood was spawned later in the game - directly at 3star level? Meaning you might be above your limit on 3star generals.

ps = by the way - I'm happy to announce that the AI is a real bitch on the strategical level ! ... until now ... [;)]

You can zip the two save files and post them here, or e-mail them to Eric (ericbabe@west-civ.com) with a detailed description of what you're reporting.

As for the generals, the game would not promote someone for you, but there are still a few generals (all 100-percenters, I think) who can come in at a higher level than 1-star. There are some confusing issues associated with this that aren't worth explaining, but I do plan on taking another look at the database because of this issue. Thanks for your comments.

That's not a bug actually - those would be pursuit losses - stragglers and such. They are not technically "caused" by any particular brigade so they are only listed as taken. Pursuit losses now do affect both sides, though the pursuer general loses significantly less than the pursuee (but both are much lower than in the past as long as there are no surrendering brigades).

It's possible to start with more generals at a rank than you are allowed, based on the scenario design. In that case, it would work like that. I'm not sure if later entries would be allowed to enter at a rank that there are no spots for. I think that all post-start generals are supposed to enter at 1 Star, but this change may not have made it to the July 1861 scenario in the case of 100 percenters. If you're seeing it in that scenario, then they should enter as 1 Stars in the next version.

I play QB and I have never seen a general killed. Do they get killed in QB? When a general does get killed, on which screen is it reported -- the one right after the battle, the Army Report in the Events Report, or the Battles Report?

It gets reported in the next Event Log, near the bottom. It's definitely rare though as 4 Stars are immune to QB loss and 3 Stars are only lost very rarely. 2 Stars are in danger in QBs though.

no - it's not that - it seems to be a bug - it's during instant battles I often play. Suppose 10 brigades from either side take damage and none deals damage - so I mean thousands of casualties on both sides without anybody actually causing damage. This seems to happen on both sides - but I'll send the save file to Eric babe with some decent description.

I think that is the way Instant Combat reports it, I have not seen any IC where damage was shown being done, just taken

would be convenient if it did report it ... so I guess for the moment this is a WAD and I don't send the save to Eric ... [:)]
