Vista installs but won't run

Post by Speeder_24 »

Downloaded from website and loaded fine. When I open it and press "play" I get "Close Combat: Cross Of Iron has stopped working and will now close" message. I've read I believe that I need to run it in Windows ME/2000 but don't know what that means or how to do that. Do you need more information from me? Thank you. Oh, I think I mentioned it, but I have Vista as my OS. ATI Radeon X850 video card, X-FI audio card.

try running cc3.3x3 in compatibility mode.

right click on the exe, choose properties, choose compatibility

click the "Run this program in comatibility mode"
and choose windows 98 /ME

please report back

Schrecken, That worked! Thank you. Do I need to do this every time I open the game or will it remember that setting?

Gentlemen I think I just read what I needed to know.   Getting this game to work (and thus far it has not) has been nothing short of an expensive nightmare.  I too will attempt to restart using compatibility mode for Windoze ME.

Well... now that was an absolute waste of time. NO GO - tried every compatabilitgy setting. The game not only trashed my hard drive during install on my preveous computer resulting in me have ing to go out and spend $700 for a new computer and and the Damned thang still won't work. [:@]
Oh... did I say waste of money too? What a disappointment after so many hours of enjoyment with Atomic Games past efforts.
I'm seriously considering hiring a lawyer at this point. I don't want to because Matrix has a lot going for it - unfortunately with that reputation comes the rep for releasing horribly bugged products instead doing good play testing before release. Matrix still has games I want... descriptions and everything are a magnet for an old gamer like me. But when a product destroyes your computer and still refuses to operate on the new one... patience wears thin in a hurry.
What can I say? I'm peeved tgo no end and terribly disappointed.
[:-] Thumbs down on this one MATRIX.

Well well well... I don't believe it.  I actually got the dern thangy to work!  May wonders never cease.  Had to setup another ME user account and then turn off all the parental controls as Adminitrator so Me could play da game.  [:D]
