I'm currently working on my Pro books

Post by SmilinJack »

I'm currently building my Pro 4-3 and Pro 3-4 books. 11 man football.

These will be based on base personel, ie., Pro 2 wr, 1 te, 1 fb, 1 hb. Pro splits, Pro I, Near, Far, Hback, Slot, Spread, Ace etc. These formations will be built from the base personel...somewhat old school, as if teams shift into these formations from the Pro Set.

Okay, with that said, should I make different books for 43, 34, the 46 etc or just put them all in the same book? I like the idea of teams having a defensive identity but sharing the same large O-book.

Also, I used to coach football and I have 50 or so coaching books on philosophy, technique, gamplanning, personel and of course winning.

Most are on a particular style of play, offense or defenses etc.

What kind of books are you guys building? What schemes, defenses, and offenses?

What do you guys perfer?

I am going to start a project like this shortly, but for the indoor game.
But, that being said, I really enjoy being able to give a team a specific identity.
Being able to have a team run a 4-3 or another team a 3-4, etc...I think thats more my preference. You can always set their team profiles to draft for a specific defense and offense.

So, I guess im saying I would prefer playbooks set up for a specific style, or at least have the option to select an offense and then import the defensive playbook. I could have a run and shoot offense and a 4-3 defense for a team, etc.

However, being that im eternally grateful to those who are making this stuff so I dont have to, you could just dump all the plays in a folder and I would build my own playbooks from it [:)]

There has been a delay in the Playmaker Tools because of the changes that will be coming in the roster depth charts.

The Playmaker Tools will have many base formations and receiver routes that will allow coaches to keep much more compact play folders.

If you are willing to wait a bit, this may keep you from having to redraw playbooks when the changes are made.

I collect playbooks as well, and I hope to complete the updated default playbooks soon afterward.  Glen (nmleague) may update his playbooks to the Playmaker Tools formations as well.

We are waiting on a few more updates from David before moving forward.

SmilinJack, Welcome aboard.  I'm building specific specific defenses with specific offenses, at least until mix-and-match separate offense and defenses are available.

I also have a large collection of coaching books, and access to many others I don't own through some networking I've done, and one thing I've noticed is that offense translates beautifully from book to game, but defense requires some creativity, flexibility, and trial and error.

Until we get better file management, I've stuck to making only one playbook per computer.  I've been working on a pro style playbook, but I've expanded it to include a multitude of personel groupings to give it some more flavor; and on my laptop I started work on a Wing-T offense.

I agree. The defense requires some serious cajolling(SP). I'm a defensive guy, I love defense. Most games treat defense as basic formations with an eye toward stopping the run or the pass. Pretty basic stuff. FPS and MaxFB are easily the best X and O tools though. I'd like to see the defense logic changed completely in the PDS.

Let me assign base on priority a true false logic to every player. Formation dictates personel right? Nickel, 6-3, 5-2, 4-4 etc... obviously designed to get certain players on the field...that is good.

But, now I want to tell my right end after snap what to do in a given siutuation. Go after the QB at 95% maybe, and watch for the run with 5% effort. Or maybe pass rush 50% effort, watch the run 50%.

Basically, I want to tell my players how to read the play and how much effort to put into something. Less important for DLs and CBs, we'd all agree they have serious priorities. But, my safeties and backers can be fine tuned to make a defense a run attitude or a pass attitude or a blitz attitude.

Let me give the positions commands; however, I also want to set the attitude of the defense or the individuals.

I hope this make sense.

Thanks Jay

You books are more modern and realistic.

I may do the same. Most players don't like the idea that their FB would become their second TE, or H-Back. Or even older...TE splits wide to be SE and HB splits wide to become the Flanker. I'm old school...just can't shake it.

This come from coaching kids to stay on the field and shift into these positions.
