Lee standing like a stonewall

Post by Houtje »

a quick question on what might be a bug. I'm playing standard scenario (patched), as CSA, and am now into late summer of 1864. R.E. Lee, in command of a 90k+ army is situated in tennessee river between paducah and bowling green provinces. For at least 4 turns I tried to get him to move (with blue movement arrows), but he just stays put. Now I know that there's always the possibility that a general will go McClellan on you, but four turns in a row for Bobby Lee seems rather excessive. Could it be a bug or am I just unlucky?

Thanks in advance,
M

May i ask if there is any enemy forts in ur province or the one ur trying to move into as first on ur path?

I might have spotted a bug not sure how much is intended concerning forts and movements. try another path out of ur province and see if u dont move right away then.

looking forward to an answer

My first comment would be you're probably unlucky. I've not seen any movement problems like that with the patch as in a unit just will not move. When they don't it's usually weather or inititive related. As for Bobby Lee are you using historical or random ratings? Random would mean Bobby could be more like McClellan.  Are you trying to move from 1 river province to another river one?

Thanks for the replies. I tried to post a screenshot; hope it works. Walloc, as you can see, Ft. Henry is located in the same province as Lee. I tried different destinations, and none of them coerced Bobby into moving, but you're right that he always tries to begin his mm from a province that also contains an occupied enemy fort. Tiredoftryingnames, I play with a historical Lee, and I tried moving both to another river province and to a non-river province (bowling green e.g.).

Edit: I'm sorry, can't get the screenshot to work. Hope that the verbal version is elucidating enough.

well, you were spot-on. I besieged ft. henry agressively, took it in one turn and tried to move the next turn: and it worked! So, it probably has to do with enemy forts then?

Yes im pretty sure it has to do with forts. Again if thats the intention i just havent seen it in the documentation for strategic movement modifers. Im hoping Eric will pop by and enlighten us all. He has a way of doing that [:D]

Click on the unit history for the top level container and it should tell you why it didn't move.

I had this problem once back under the old patch. Finally just dismantled the army and moved the separate pieces. For some reason that worked.

When I first started playing pre 1.23 patch games and some 1.23 patch games I hadn't rea any part of the manual.  So, when I played detailed Combat or HW, I simply attacked and attacked and attacked and was successful, until I ran into entrenched USA troops, and even after flanking them and attacking from behind I was still badly defeated after a long battle. I guess it pays to read at least some of the manual, however, I did ask some questions here and learned somethings from some people, but not a whole lot, so I finally did read some of the manual.

Good tip, Erik, thanks. The unit history of the last 6 turns or so said that it didn't move because of enemy presence (in either Pulaski or Bowling Green). I'm pretty sure, however, that there was no enemy presence in these provinces, only in Ft. Henry in the starting province (tennessee river).
