Another Error TCP

Post by Texas D »

Still getting a bunch of C++ errors tend to happen around April, which leads to the person connecting not being able to see the events and battle reports. Then game becomes unplayable in early August due to the amount of errors being produced each turn. Had a few new errors today, tplayed head failed to connect and tplayer tail failed to connect.

Sounds like it's just generally a problem with packet dropping; I have no idea why this happens on some LAN configurations and not on others, TCP/IP is not my specialty; we haven't been able to duplicate this on our LAN at all.  The blasted TCP/IP library I'm using (an old Microsoft package) is supposed to do its own packet dropping detection and error handling, but apparently it doesn't work in all cases.  I'm looking into writing our own dropped packet detection and recovery routines, but this isn't an easy thing to do, as the order of packets is very important.
