WITP Editor X

Post by Buck Beach »

Can this tool be used to make in game changes to the PWHEX and how is it done? I have read the former "How" to thread in changing the PWHEX and the WITP program instruction state it can be used for changes. When I go into the program I only see where changes are at the Scenario Level. What am I missing?

Oh oh, I misspoke. While I can get a world view of the Scenario's PWHEX I can't seem to do anything with it at that level either.

In WITP Editor X

Go to the last icon at the top (looks like a red hex).
Open and you will see a field saying "Browse"
Open and find where your pwhex or wpohex file is (it is probably in C:\Matrix Games\WITP or War Plan Orange (and is called either pwhex.dat or wpohex.dat.
Open the file.

To get the close up view of the hex it is open the browse button at the lower right and open the folder C:\Matrix Games\WITP\ART.
Make sure the little box called "view art" is checked as on.

It takes a minute to load.

Hope this makes sense. I hope it answers your question - maybe it doesn't! I think if you make any changes to the pwhex file it will change the map in all scenarios and saved games (not 100% certain about saved games though)

I think you have to load a scenario first. In RHS, make it any scenario of the same level. THEN you select view for pwhex - and browse to pick the current pwhex.dat file. The utility then puts comments in the pwhex file that tell what location is what row/column, etc. When you finish you must "save" - only files altered will be written.

This is very dangerous - so be sure to have backups before you mess with this editor. All the files in the regular scen folder plus pwhex.dat in the upper WITP folder are at risk to being altered.

Also after you load up a scenario goto location view and on the toolbar select the 4th button from left and choose the location file of the scenario your editing(ex...wpl015.dat for stock scenarios) before you load the pwhex file this way you will see the location names in the list view.

Thanks, btw I've got one more dialog and two more functions left to finish in my new WITP Editor X version 2 and no more glitchy controls.
