Unable to Initiate On Line Play

Running version 6.1, after I select "On Line Play", as soon as I select either Join or Create, the game freezes up. On the first attempt I entered a name successfully, then selected Join and it froze. On all successive attempts, the name I selected shows up, but upon hitting either Create or Join ... Zilch! Frozen! The cursor freezes on whichever button I was trying to press.

When it happens I am able to hit ctrl-alt-del and move the cursor to selct "end the task". But outside the task manager dialogue box, the cursor disappears.

Any thoughts?
