retirement/ release players

Post by MSO94 »

OK im am so lost. i have a 12 team league computer runs the teams. i had one team set up with some good players to see what the game would do. so this team was stacked. The players were 20 years old 1 QB 3 WR 1 LB and 1 DB all 20 yrs old.
After 2 seasons the QB retired.????
1 WR was released in Training camp that was way better than the two that they kept.
LB retired after 1 season

My question is what is the standard for retirement and what is the standard the team uses to release players . As they have released much bet5ter players than they have kept.

Thanks

At the pro level, a player can leave that game at any time for any reason. So a player retiring after 2 seasons can occur. Page 35 of the manual has a little table that shows when players retire based on the league type. For the pro level, there is no min or max time.

This brings back fond memories, or not. Years ago, I think it was with the second version of FPS football, my team had the first pick in one years draft. Drafted an OL with outstanding ratings, he was a starter for every game his rookie year and looked to be a sure all pro player for many seasons. I went into shock when I looked at the retirement report and saw that he retired at the end of the first season [:@]. It wasnt the only time a good player retired while still in their prime.

Players leave leagues for a lot of reasons. Some go to other leagues, some are suspended, some have personal trouble, and some just retire. As the game currently only knows about retirement that's what it's listed as. The goal being to try and replicate the fact that GM's and coaches have to deal with losing good players.

Your just try'n to make it hard for me arn't ya Dave. Try to stack a team and they all retire to soon . what a tought crowd.

are the new updates going to go more with retirements/quiting/leaving league and career stats. I would love to see a little better handling of stats as i have a couple of players that have completly vanished form the stats and they are the good players. once they retire how long do they staty in the stats.

Well, I know you say that in jest, but it's not far from the truth. The game should challenge you like that. I had hoped that game players couldn't stack a team and dominate. You should have to worry about that sort of thing from season to season. With the ability to take control of a team, release the star player, and sign him to your normal team, it's still extremely easy to 'cheat' and stack your own team. I had originally set it up so you could only control one team per season (no ability to change once you selected your team) to prevent that, but it didn't go over very well with the testers lol. So now there's a bit of a 'honour' system there.

Players that have played at least one game in the league should never completely vanish. Even after retirement, players age every season, but should not be removed from the database. Can you zip up your league mdb file and send it to support@wintervalley.com along with the name(s) of the players that you can not find? I'd like to look in the actual table to see if they're there. It could be that they're still in the DB, but just not showing up on the lists for some reason.

Players that are in the database with 0 games played are generally removed from the database 3 or 4 seasons after they were generated. The idea behind that is that these players were never drafted are around as free agents for a season or two, but after a couple of years with no playing time, the player realizes his dream is over and he goes on to other things (and so he's deleted from availability).

Once I'm done the engine upgrade I plan on going back over all the stats and career aspects. I don't have many plans to add new features to this area, but I want to go over what is there and make sure it's all working as I originally intended it to. Players vanishing from the database with games played shouldn't be happening.
