Patches for "old" BTR and BoB

Post by Hard Sarge »

Hi Guys

Dixie has been kind enough to host the patches

so these should be the links to get them if you need them

(If I do this right)

BTR 1.06x5 patch

http://martinalcock.powweb.com/BTR/btr106x5.zip

unzip, place all the files but the Exe into the BRT/Dat folder, the Exe goes into the main BTR folder

BoB 1.02 patch

http://martinalcock.powweb.com/BTR/BOB_102.zip

unzip, and then run the patch, it is a self loader ?

I've tried a  number of ways to add these patches and so far haven't been able to do so.  I've found another patch from another site (1.03) and that patch doesn't seem to work either.

I get a message that says "Old file does not exist" and then nothing happens...no patchwork takes place.

Anyone know how to get around that problem?

which one are you haveing trouble with ?

for BTR, unzip the files, add all of the files but the exe to the Btr Dat folder and let them over write what is there

then place the BTR exe file in the normal BTR folder, it will overwrite the other exe file there

Sorry if this has been asked before. I recently got an offer to buy the original BTR CD. If I don't apply any patches, will the original game work on WinXP? Or will it be completely unplayable without patching?

Thanks!

BoB you should tell the game it is running on Win98 or Win95 and it is more stable

Speaking of troubles with BTR on XP... with my computer, a bug strikes within the first couple minutes of playing (PROBABLY at some point during the reaction phase) that makes list entries disappear (almost) completely.

For example, in the list where you pick which squadrons are to intercept a raid, I see the squadron name, the "launch 3" button and the AF where the squadron is stationed - the rest is blank. Needless to say, this makes the game pretty much unplayable on the Axis side.
I have not checked every part of the game yet, but I have so far not found any screen that is not affected by this bug. Also, once the bug has struck, you can no longer quit the game, expect via task manager; you can click the button, but it doesn´t do anything any more.

Have any of you gentleman encountered this problem, too? And, even better, maybe found a solution?

(I should perhaps mention that I am also playing BoB on the same computer, and it runs with no problems at all)

I installed the patch you linked to earlier, and that seems to have taken care of the problem.

So, you actually did help. Thanks.

Been following the Swift vs Fochinell AAR with interest, and also reading a really good book--" Bomber Boys "--so I was inspired to reinstall my old copy of BTR

Problem is I can't locate the 1.06 patch . Can't get the link in this thread to work .

Any help anybody can give to this old bomber boy would be much appreciated.

I can't get BoB to work on XP. I get sound issues, runs in loop, and mouse doesn't work right. Freezes up. I set compatibility every conceivable way. How do you get it to run ?? I patched to v1.02 also.

AFAIR you have to run it in Win9x compatibility mode.

I've tried 95, 98, NT, 2000, and plain old XP. All same, sound loop, mouse frozen.

Redmike,
I had the same issues, and couldn't get BOB to run on XP for the life of me. Frozen mouse, sound screwing up etc. What I did to fix the problem is to install the game, all the patches, then start the game -- as soon as it starts remove the CD from your drive. After it starts you do not need it any longer and the game will run fine. Hopefully this will work for you, as it worked perfectally for me.

Good Luck!

Ahh thanks for that one, I had forgotten that part

I remember talking with Talonsoft along time back, and that was part of what they had told for a issue I had back then

hopefully that will still help out

That has helped some but it's still unplayabe. Is there a way to run the game in windowed mode ?

I'm looking forward to the new release of this game!

I have a question aobut these patches. I have the original CD for BTR only.

THe first patch shown BTR 1.06X5 patch.
THis patches/updates BTR? correct?

The second listed BOB 1.02 patch does what?
Add BOB to BTR??

I just got the CD second hand so I am way behind you guys. I installed it and ran the one day starter campaign. No manual but it seemed pretty user friendly. I did well enough to eventually get a win as Allied Commander. I think if I just read through this site I can figure out how to do well. You guys have brought up a lot of strats and tatics in here the will help educate me.

Just a FYI for those the may be looking. I run Win XP and have several ot the Talonsoft products from way back when I was running Win 98. I have never had a problem with anything other than getting them installed. THey seem to hang up and stall for some reason. Not being a coder I am clueless as to why. But once installed they have run fine on all my computers. I have run them on Win 95, 98 and XP with no problems.

Later,
KayBay
