Hawker Hurricane PR

Post by Kereguelen »

Hi,

does anybody have reliable technical data for the photo-recon Hurricanes used in the CBI (probably Hurricane PR.Mk.IIb). Range, armament (if any), speed, climb rate etc. ...

Could not find anything via Google. Any help welcome!

Thanks!

From Thomas, Geoffrey J.: Eyes for the Phoenix: Allied Aerial Photo-Reconnaisance Operations, South-East Asia 1941-45. Hikoki Publications 1999.

"The [Hurricane] Mk.I and Mk.II aircraft intended for PR duties were stripped of armament, then fitted with additional 90 gallon internal fuel tanks". (p.15)

Further,

"Additional internal fuel tanks enabled the operational range to be increased to more than 550 miles". (p.50)

Appendix XV puts the "Hawker Hurricane Mk.II Trop A/B/C's" speed to 340 miles at 22,000 feet, ceiling 36,500 feet, and range at 980 miles. It is not specified whether this refers to the handful of Hurricane PR's that operated in Burma or the rather more common Tac Recon version.

Better than nothing, 'pose.

Where's the Any key?
