Installer doesn't work

Hey Matrix guys,

I bought the direct d/l of UFO online last night at like 12:01. I installed a download manager (Download Accelerator Plus) as Erik recommended on the old UFO pre-release forums, and I downloaded the .zip file. The file I downloaded was 1,974,058 kb in size, and contained a 2,100,596 KB executable file. The .exe doesn't have the usual setup icon; just a default windows executable icon. When I run the file, all it does is slow down my system to a crawl and no installer or any other program is launched. I've redownloaded the file several times and I get the same thing every time.

Do I have a bum download? Is the download manager adversely affecting the installer? Let me know what's up. If you'd prefer to do this over email, my email's in my profile.

Did you turn of your virus scanner or other security software before you try to install. Such large installers can bog down systems when virus scanners / security software are running in the background.

I'll try that; do the file sizes look right to you?

That's the right file size and if you were able to unzip it, then it was not corrupt. My guess is the same as Marc's - something on your system is trying to scan or check a 2GB exe and taking a LONG time doing it. I would turn off anti-virus, ant-spyware, etc. until the installation is complete and see if that helps.

Still no go, gents. I turned off Avast and ran the exe again, but no go. No dialogue pops up, and the system slows down significantly. Ctrl-alt-delete will not bring up the Task Manager, and the Control Panel no longer comes up (just that oscillating flashlight forever).

Disregard my last; it just took forever to get there but the installer popped up eventually, about five minutes later. Installing now, thanks Matrix.

Very odd, something else must have still been trying to check it, it pops up in a few seconds for me. Glad that you got it worked out though.

I was guilty of leaving my anti-virus software on and it took over 15 minutes before the file started to extract....so if you do not want to disable your AV software, then you need to be patient....
