Win 2K OS SPWAW v 5.01

Post by Led Morta »

SPWAW v 5.01 fails to load game past movie intro. I am running PIII, 733MHZ, 256MB machine with Win2K OS. Display refresh is 70mhz on a Rage 128 video card. Please advise to get game running. I downloaded the complete Internet game.

Do you have a sound card installed? It requires one. Also try deleting steel.prf in the SAVE folder

Thank you for your prompt response.

I have a sound card. I can hear the intro movie and audio files from the menu. There is no sound.prf file in the save folder.

Now what do I try next?

There is NO steel.prf or sound.prf in the spwaw folder. And, I have a sound card, and I just installed directx 8.0a this evening. Any suggestions to get this game running?

I searched the hard drive for steel.prf and no file was found. I'll reinstall the darn thing again. In the meantime, any other suggestions?

You will need Adobe Accrobat reader to read teh manual file. You can get it from www.adobe.com . Current version is 5.0

I also first did not get it to run under 2k. Now I can but there are several strange things. I can't apply the patch to 5.2 or something which is needed before patching to 6.x. If I apply any patch the game will say "could not find vid998.smk" although the file is where it is supposed to be together with all other smk.

As far as i can remember there was a "bugged" version of the "vid998.smk" with one version of Spwaw and there was a new one available for download to overwrite the corrupted one in the download area of this site, you may check it out.
You can also search the forum with the word "vid998.smk" and find out what was discussed about this matter.
