Post by Fred Astaire »

I install the Pacific War, Executing the game after the credits the screen goes black and return to windows with the following message error:

the program execute a ilegal operation and will be finalized...

the program found a exception of protection

site of the fail: 00C0:FFFF

active interruptions: None

What i doing wrong??? in the game site there is no information about any problems! I downloaded the full version of the game (v2.2) it's about 7mb.

How much free low memory do you have when you try to run pacwar? Are you running it from dos, a dos window, or the msdos prompt? Due to the high memory requirement of pacwar, most problems involve low dos memory. Remember though it has a windows installer, it is still a dos mode game.

If you are running dos with over 600k free, then the next two items to check are your video driver and your sound driver.

Personally I can get WIR to run fine from a windows shortcut, for pacwar I have to boot up in dos mode to get enough memory for it to run without problems. If you are right on the breaking point it will run, but some menus won't work correctly. If I play on my dos machine with qemm I have over 620k available and it runs fine.
thanks, John.

HI, 263mb of free memory. When i run from a msdos prompt the game goes like in the windows, when in Dos after the credits the screen goes black then i have to shut down the pc.
And War in Russia also goes fine in a shortcut here, the only problem is with Pacific War.

Another question:
how are the system requirements for Pacific War?

thx for the reply!

263mb of memory have nothing to do with dos low memory. Go to msdos and type mem, and see what it says the largest executable size is. For my system with 192 megs of ram it is 574k from the msdos prompt (called from win98.) If I reboot in msdos mode it is just over 600k, That is enough of a differance to get pacwar to run when in dos mode but not from the dos prompt.
thanks, John.
