SPWAW - Buttons MIssing?

Hi,
Ok - I downloaded the game yesterday along with the patches to go up to ver 6.1
Installed the game and patches ok, but after playing a few minutes all the command buttons in the right side panel disappear. This just happens at random times. Sometimes when I right click on something, sometimes when I go into the preferences menu, or when I'm just playing the game.
Can anybody help?

I have a voodoo 2 (not so new), but anyway, I remember now that turning the graphics down did help me with a couple other games, so I'm going to give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Ok - I tried that. I didnt work. I also tried turning off the music and sound effects. That didnt work either.
Any other ideas? I'm getting desperate. I love this game. I've been playing SP since the first one came out and I got cable internet installed just so I could download it (honest!).
Now I finally got it downloaded and its almost impossible to play without the command buttons.
HELP!!!!
