Scenario suggestion

Post by ColdBones »

I just started playing, and played tutorial scenarios.
As I see there is a vast number of scenarios in TOAW, so can any of more exp players suggest me a couple of good scenarios.

Well, what type do you want to play?
Will you be playing against the computer, or a human?
What time do you want to play? (WWI,WWII, Cold War, Modern)
Do you want it to be small, medium, big, or huge?
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

size is not important (but, since Im begginer than perhaps I shouldnt start with huge ones).

Two Weeks in Normandy is well balanced and a manageable scale.
I've heard good things about Road to Rimini.
Both are playable from either side against the computer, and will give you a taste of TOAW.

...any time except WWI (never liked WWI)...
I came to TOAW with this prejudice too. Then found that it could be far more interesting than one would think. Balkans 12 or Marne or Mons in 14 for examples. Serbia-Galicia 14 can teach some useful strategic lessons.

WWI also can teach you some incredibly important tactical basics. Digging and use of arty in particular, which will never let you down whatever era you're in. Also attrition (I wish there was a Verdun- or even Somme- scenario out there to illustrate this).

Cavalry too in some scenarios- with high recon/movement values allows you to get a glimpse of the way towards the Blitzkriegs of WWII... All in all, it is not IMO the trench-fest we all have in our minds when we first approach this.
Tactics are based on Weapons... Strategy on Movement... and Movement on Supply. (J. F. C. Fuller 1878-1966)

That's a great one. Crippling. Bloody. Fast..[:'(] It's all about to out-manouever your opponent in the early days of WW1. Strongly recommended by a non-WW1-guy (me).[:D]

@ColdBones:

You may also wish to check out the forums over at Gamesquad, were many of your respondents spend much of their time, eh?

http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10

There will be a 'New Players Workshop' soon, which may be of considerable assistance, even if all you do is read the posts concerning same, eh?
--------
As an aside, doing WW1 scenarios really is good for your learning curve, as this allows one to concentrate on the basics w/o having to worry about things like 'air cover' etc, as others have mentioned, LOL!

Welcome to ToaW, may you have as much fun with it as I have!
