Probs with PBEM game

Post by Jeff Norton »

All,

I am trying to PBEM with my brother in PA. I've followed the instructions in the PBEM Helper program and I sent just fine.

So, He did his force buy and sent back the four files in an email.I don't think they came by the PBEM program. It does not seem that the files loaded nor can I access them. Every time I start the PBEM game, it defaults back to the German buy screen, which my brother is playing. Tried to resend the files, but it is not working.

Can PBEM be done just by attachments in email?

Is there anyone who can help out and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

My personal point of view: PBEM Helper program have a sense if you're playing MASSIVE # of pbem games, otherwise it's easier and safer to go with the old good system of zipping the four files and send them to your opponent.

I just finished my first email game, so perhaps I can help some.

Since I started the game, I sent the setup to my opponent, who then sent his purchase and deploy back, then I deployed and got hit with his pre turn bombardment. I then played my first turn and sent the files back, we then traded files back and forth until the game ended.

Make sure you are moving the email attachments to and from the email folder that spwaw makes. the 4 files you need are *.cmt, *.rec, *.aux, and *.dat. We zipped the 4 files together and sent them as one attachment (which helps detect if the internet loses part of your message). I manually would save attachments and unzip the files in the email directory. After a turn I would manually zip them up and file attach them to my opponent.

The * above will be replaced by emailxx where xx is the save slot used.
What it looks like in your case is that the files your brother sent back are either the ones you sent him, if he sent the wrong ones, or the files he sent got put in the wrong directory and you are still using the files that you sent your brother and never updated to the ones he sent back.
thanks, John.

In purchase/deploy, it is possible to click the wrong exit icon and not save the file properly. After purchase/deploy, the pbem secure mode seems to be pretty bullet-proof. It is possible that your opponent did not get his purchase saved and the program is prompting you to do his purchase.

If this is so, he will need to purchase/deploy and be sure he gets saved before quitting the program.
