How do rivers work in RHS? I found no reference in the handbook

There are two kinds - internal and external river systems.

External rivers work like seacoast - which they are. SOP. They exist in some degree in CHS and just are expanded in RHS.

Internal rivers pretty much mess up AI TF assignments - which often are messed up anyway (look at transport TFs and you will be horribly disappointed - ships with no cargo - ships that don't have fuel and are trying to move across the ocean - ships with no rational destination). But manually they work normally - except you cannot leave the local system. There is usually one - but the Mekong has two internal river systems - divided by a great waterfall/rapids in Cambodia - IRL.

An external river system - not always a river system - there is "the inland passage" near Vancouver BC and "the inland sea" to Kure Japan (invented by Andrew I think) - is a series of coastal hexes connected to the sea.

An internal river system is a series of coastal hexes NOT connected to the sea. That means that the series is broken at some point - that it does not permit movement all the way to the sea. Often these breaks are real (as at Wuhan). Sometimes they are artificial - where the river becomes too shallow for deep ocean ships. That means the river boats stay on the river and battleships do not sail where they could not go.

BOTH can be spotted at once if you look for a series of white hex sides - that is the code for "both" land and sea units may enter this hex. BOTH can also be "tracked" by the existence of a blue river series of hex sides beside them (occasionally broken by a white hexside if a turn requires it). Another indicator is the presence of "river ports" - inland ports which are not bases - and which often (usually) have an anchor symbol indicating ships are present. Yet another indicator is the presence of task force symbols in the river and/or river port hexes.

El cid, while browsing around this scenario which bombur and myself are getting ready to play, I noticed some ships have destination 'unknown' when they appear in the game (after being built). Can you tell me what that means? ( I am assuming a random location or madacascar (sp) )

I sometimes see this when AI is controlling task forces. Also I notice that the track destination is different from what the set destination is. But in manual I don't see this. Can you cite an example to look at?

Aye, for ships that are in the build queue, some of them have unknown for their port of first appearance.

Hi, Bendarek, maybe you could send a save game file to el cid, so he could see what is going on
