Game Won't Start

Post by KGrob »

I purchased the game and downloaded it successfully and began playing a few games...the game worked fine after the download. I purchased the download version along with a shipped copy of the disk.

Fun game by the way.

But, somewhere along the line, I got some sort of a "nasty" virus (Just say no to online Porn), couldn't get rid of it, and had to reformat my hard drive. I was disappointed that I lost my saved games...but no problem I thought...I'll just reload the game from the disk and the world would eventually be fine once again.

No cigar.

The game seems to load fine when I click on the Desk Top Icon. But, when I click on the "New Game" button (or any of the buttons for that matter) the game crashes. No game message or anything comes up...but a Microsoft Window comes up asking me to "Please tell Microsoft about this problem."

Bummer.

I really have no idea what the problem is.

I want to reemphasize that the game worked fine after the download. And I reloaded it on the same exact computer...same version of windows (just reloaded)...same hardware...same everything...so the computer isn't the problem (at least it doesn't seem to be the likely culprit). The computer works fine right now.

Did you patch the game after installing it? You should be using 3.1.0.9.

Did you remember to reinstall all of your device drivers after the formatting of your HD, and reinstallation of Windows?

What version of Windows are you using?

Have you installed the latest version of DirectX? Can you post your Diagnostic File? See the stickied thread at the top of this sub-forum for directions if you need help with that.

Have you emailed support@matrixgames.com ?

No, I didn't reinstall the drivers...thanks for reminding me to do that by the way. I actually built the computer myself and did install all that stuff the first time around...just didn't remember to do it after the re-install. I have all the disks and will do that today.

After that, I'll patch it up and we'll see what happens. It might be a day or two (or so) before I can get to that stuff. But, either way, I'll post up the results. If that doesn't work, we'll figure out alternate plan "B" whatever that is. :)

Thanks.

Began updating drivers. First disk was for the sound card (Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi). I figured that would be easiest. Anyway, all went well and I tested the game to see if it would start after I updated the sound card driver.

It works!

Actually, the sound card drivers were the last drivers that I thought would get things going...but who knows.

Just FYI guys...update those drivers!

I'll update the rest of the drivers over the next day or so as time permits (I don't have the luxury of sitting down and doing it all at once).

Thanks.

By the way, thanks for your quick response...and helpful too as it turns out. My experience with "support" from various companies in the past hasn't always been a positive experience. However, yours has been very helpful and timely.

Again, thanks.

Yeah, they're really great here.
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.
