Italian armour

Post by Pergite! »

Hi everyone!

I have invested alot of time lately to create a good armour scenario for COTA. The battle around El-Mechili in 1940 became the setting, because it was a fairly even engagement and offers alot of "what-if" potential.
I checked out what type of tanks that where in the estabs against the OOB for the battle and found everything that I needed. The map is almost done, so I started with research of a more detailed force composition, which with the Italian brigade involved turned out to be rather complicated.
Anyway, I encountered a very big problem when it was time to build the OOB in the scenario maker. The italian unit estab only offers one single (useless) tank type, the L33/35. Some of these where involved in the battle, but it was the M13/40 tank that made up the bulk of the italian forces. This tank is in the equipment database, but not in any Italian units. Its however included in the Brittish side.[&:]

Is it just me or have the Italian forces in COTA just one single tank type available to them? There are seven additional / capable tank types in the unit database, but they arent selectable by anyone except the allies. Is there anyway around this or should I start counting on how many M13/40 it goes on a PzIII?

The British captured over a hundred of them intact at Beda Fomm - as they were sorely lacking in armoured units they used them themselves and some Aussie units too IIRC.

Patch 3 isn't finalized yet so it could be added to the Italian estab - I'll post your request in the beta forum right now.

I certainly dont doubt the research that has been put into making the estabs. But I do wonder why this "issue" hasnt surfaced before. The game has an excellent scenario/map editor, and there must have been someone that have tried to look at making something with the italians?

Thank you all for the good support!

They're not exactly the most popular army to develop scenarios around - which is a shame in a sense - but not putting an M13 in their estab is an oversight - sometimes it's hard to spot the "obvious" thing missing until someone points at it and everyone says "uh, eh, yes, you're right" [;)]

Great![:)]

The "sandbox" for them to play in looks a little dull, but its just desert, some small roads, a few ruins and a couple of oasis. The dry out "lakes" is made out of beach terrain at the moment, mainly because they offer the same movement hinderence as a swamps, without adding alot of green colour to the map.
The whole map didnt fit on a single screenshot, so I guess it can be quite cpu demanding if it wherent for the lack of diverse terrain and alot of units.
