Game froze had to reset computer

I was had just arrived at an alien base when the load up screen froze and the only way to get out was to reset the computer. I have my last save game. I waited for the transport to refuel, rearmed a few guys and took off. Then it froze after I arrived.

I just tried it again and it froze up on me again.

I went and recovered an alien scout ship and then tried attacking the base again. It froze once more.

I went on with the game and let the aliens have the disputed territory. Recovered a couple of more scout and discovered the alien base "again". This time it loaded okay.
