Come on Matrix...Promote your games

You are meant to be a publisher of games. You have a great website with a fantastic forum and a good bunch of people.
But I think you need to sit down and think about what's involved with publishing.
Far be it for me to tell you how to do your job but really, on this occasion, I think I'm excused.
The Campaign Series is coming out...re-released with updates. Great. But take a look at your website for it. It really is very, very poor. The screenshots are the worst screenshots I've ever seen.
I have asked a couple of times now on that forum for some screen shots and I did have one reply saying soon...but the game is due out in, apparently hours/days.
And this isn't the only game that suffered from this lack of attention...there have been many releases where the website has gone by the wayside.
I don't know about anyone else here...but I think you ought to spend a little bit of time sprucing up the games website section. There really needs to be more information and, especially, screenshots...good quality ones. This goes especially for upcoming releases. You should be promoting more...whetting peoples apetites.
So come on...pull your finger out and get your games section sorted. Get some new info up there about the games. Nothing sells a game better than a half decent AAR....chuck one of them in as well...and this goes for all your games, not just the Campaign Series. I just brought that up because I'm eagerly awaiting it's release...

Well, Matrix is a rather small company. I'd actually rather they stick to their core competencies...

I would like to see the "Coming Soon" section of the Storefront updated more often too. The Campaign Series isn't even listed there (nothing is). I must agree with the Judge. [:)]

Hi Guys
We do promote our games and I feel do a very good job. I think our standing in the gaming community and sales prove it. Once the game is ready to be setup for sale you will know it and the game section will be update.

Matrix certainly does a better job of marketing than other companies. I'm writing a marketing plan for a Danish IT company at the moment, and they actually don't have a marketing effort...[8|]

Yeah well has Matrixgames approached "Girls of Gaming"? to promote sales to girls/females? We need more females in this genre. Rhonda just can't handle all of us.

I've definitely noticed that Matrix could use some work on creating better screenshots. Not larger files, but a better screenshot utility or something.

Well...it's just a thought.
I personally, get all fired up for an upcoming game the more I read about it and the more I see screenies and AARs.....in fact there are games I just wouldn't have bought except for the fact I read an AAR...Forge of Freedom being one.
I think it just makes sense to get some momentum with regards an upcoming release

If this is the case, David, then why have a games section at all for upcoming releases? Why not just leave it until release date before you whack the page up?
With specific regard to the Campaign Series webpage, it really is a waste of space. It does nothing but put one off the game, the screenshots are bad...have you looked? And there's precious little info on the game. My fuse has burned out with it. I was excited that you were taking this game on....but with no new screenshots, I can't remember what the game looks like (it was years ago I had it)...and an AAR would've kept my enthusiasm.
It's fair to say that on release, I'm sure you do a good job of promoting the games...but my suggestion was that you may want to do more "prior" to release...and if not, don't bother having a webpage for games that are not released.
Unless there's a business reason for not wanting to promote upcoming releases?
Anyway, as I said, far be it for me to re-organise the promotional aspect of your business...just thinking out loud and more than a little disappointed about the lack of info that I was very excited about.

Most of the time it's simply a matter of there only being 24 hours in a day. In other words : priorities. I'm sure they agree having a great looking website up before release is a Good Thing (tm) but there are always a zillion other things to do too.

RE: Come on Matrix...Promote your games
Ok, not sure if this is a good fit for the thread, or that I can make it sound like it makes sense, but here goes:
I think the reason many of us are on this forum (and some of the other game company forums) is that we in general can't find the games we like at retail or even some of the big internet sellers. We are "wargamers" or "strategy gamers" and to be blunt, we are just not mass market material. You need to be high graphics, shoot-ups, large busted characters, heavy sound effects etc. to be that.
We find our way here in some way, either the marketing the company does on sites we might visit, perhaps a few ads, internet search would be a big one, game reviews, or word of mouth through forums etc. I guess what I'm trying to say is, whatever marketing Matrix did, somehow got us here. While it might be nice for them and others to market more, that is also more expense and higher price for the game. Back to the last paragraph, it also may not be money well spent, as the customer market base for these "special interest games" is just not that high, and the additional purchases not enough to make up for it.
The good news, we can be a great special interest group, finding our games from serious developers and exchanging thoughts on forums. We are above [;)] the crowd in that we are swayed by history, tactics, strategy, thought and quality over glitz glamour, sound, graphics, hype and boobs. (maybe we should leave that last one in there [:D])
In short, the marketing done is probably a logical match for the type of product. On the other hand, I could be full of crap.
