SP WAW Lost Victories - Some questions...

Post by Andreas »

Hi!
I have some questions about SP WAW MC Lost Victories.
1st one: My PC runs with a AMD K6-2 333 Mhz and the scrolling is really bad. If somebody runs the game on a faster machine: Is the scrolling smoother or still that choppy?
2nd question: On the CD-ROM are 2 exe.dats: setup.exe and update.exe. I used the setup.exe as usual to install the game. Everything works fine, but: What's the function of the update.exe? It seems to be no patch.
Third question: Does SP WAW LV come with all the addon-patches that you can find on the website? (Sound-Patch etc.)?
Greetings from Cologne, Germany,

Welcome aboard, to answer you questions. 1.) You can adjust your scroll rate in the preference screen it might help. How much RAM do you have? Your processor is fast enough to play just a little slower but not unbearable. 2.) The setup file install SPWAW 7.0 and the MegaCampaign Lost Victories, the update.exe only imports the Lost Victory MegaCampaign into an existing verision of SPWAW 5.1 or higher so you chose the right install file. 3.)Yes the game includes all patches and updates to ver 7.0 to also include the sound update which is now standard now on any new full install of 6.1 or higher. See this thread in the SPWAW forum Beta 7.1 download location it has the location and instructions on how to install the 7.1 beta patch which you will need because of a "waiting for all players to sync error" that crops up in the game. The final release of this update will be available soon from the Matrix Site, it's still going through some fine tunning and tweaking, we hope to have it out soon. Also were hoping to release a Lost Victories patch this weekend to fix problems and issues that have occured with this Mega so keep your eyes open, and when there ready the word will be put out. If your familiar with windows double check your directory tree for your MatrixGame installation and make sure you don't have nested directories, directories with the same name residing within each other. You should only have one name per directory for the entire tree except /save there will be one in the MatrixGames/SPWAW/ folder and one in the MatrixGames/SPWAW/MegaCam/ folder. If you have any question please feel free to ask and if you unsure about these nested directories I have a picture I can send to show you what it should look like. I say this because the're have been some issues that came up during this latest installation routine. Have fun

Gmenfan: In your last post you mentioned having a SAVE folder in under MC. (OK I have that), but you also mention having a SAVE folder under SPWaW also. Are you sure cause if you are, I have a problem and everything is running OK under 7.0. I have not loaded my LV camp yet. Pls clarify. Thanks in advance.

2 save folders 1 under MatrixGames/SPWAW/ folder which is where the steel.prf file hides along with normal SPWAW scenario/campaign saves and 1 under the MatrixGames/SPWAW/MegaCam folder where only Mega saves go. Thats how mine are set and I didn't modify any locations either. Where is your steel.prf file hiding?? Which Megas do you have installed??

Chief: I just double, triple checked my above post, It's correct I checked it against the installation logfile.txt. Your missing the main MatrixGames\SPWAW\save folder for normal SPWAW games which would contain the steel.prf file also.

Gmenfan: Velly Interesting. My PRF file is under the MC Save folder . I am presently playing Ubertechies' series and that's where in saves, also the same place my MCNA saves when it's played. Never had two different Saves going at the same time so I can't say it'll be fouled up. Maybe when I install LV (after its all straightened out) something may change. Who knows computers are a wonderful thing. Until later I'll let you know. Thanks for info.

If you ever get the chance, look at your logfile.taxt file and do a search for save and look to see where the games originally installed them.

Gmenfan: Looked in suggested file and found:

[Execute Command 2]
[File Operations 2]
Delete: C:\Matrix Games\Steel Panthers World At War\save\steel.prf

This is verbatum from the factory file and is near the end of said file. I'm not planning on changing it at this time since I'm not having ANY of the problems noted in the forum, I'm a firm believer in 'if it's working leave it alone'. Again I may have troubles with LV and 7.1 later, but I'll wait and see. I was really inquisitive about this and I do thank you for your reply. I'll keep you posted when I install and see if this comes up as a problem. Gracious, Danke etc.

128 MByte - ist it enough?

Would you please be so kind and send me that picture? It would help me a lot!

Chief: In the new installation routines beginning with ver 6.1 it will automatically remove the steel.prf when it updates the mech.exe as to not pose problems for us with incompatible issues. That way we shouldn't have to do it anymore when upgrading. You rememeber this was a manual ongoing occurance. If you notice the location it was removed from was the properly located \save folder the one in which you appear to be missing. But leave well enough alone like you said don't fix what ain't broken.

Andreas: You have plenty of RAM. Other things to do that can speed up the game is to quit all unnecessary programs running in the background while playing SPWAW. I need your email address to send the picture to you it's not posted with your profile, you can email me if you don't want it displayed.
