Planes / Pilots

Post by Yamato hugger »

2 seperate games. Ver 1.806. Both early war Dec 41.

Game 13. Me allies. Scenario 115 (ABs map). AVG had 2 aces. 1 with 6 kills, 1 with 5 kills. Suddenly, the guy with 6 kills is no longer in the game. Doesnt show on the pilot list at all anymore. Not KIA, not MIA, not WIA. Gone.

Game 15. Me Japs. Scenario 155 (ABs extended map). 1st fighter starts with 42 aircraft (group limit is 36, so 6 extra planes). 2/64th fighter starts in the same hex has 6 planes with a group limit of 12. I wait a few days until the 6 extras in 1st fighter are "damaged" and then move the 1st and merge the remaining 6 into the 2/64th (1 pilot in the 64th was lost somehow leaving 12 planes, 11 pilots). Next turn the 1st has 36 planes and pilots. The 2/64th has 6 planes, 6 pilots.

Also, in game 13. I loaded part of the 2nd Burma from Moulemein (sp) and moved them to Tavoy to try to repulse Jap airborne attack that had been holding on by its fingernails. They were 2 hexes away from Tavoy at the begining of the turn set to unload full speed (the AK was undamaged and had a 12 kt speed). During the combat phase the unit didnt show up as being in the hex, and consequently the Tavoy group was barely beaten and retreated. If the 2nd Burma had been there, it would have stopped the landing cold. The 2nd Burma did not show up as one of the units retreating. Next turn the AK is empty and happily sailing towards India, and the 2nd Burma is in the hex with the rest of the units that retreated.

Edit: Any chance of me becomming a playtester? [;)]

On game 13, one of the last patches, not sure exactly which one, but KIA pilots now are removed from game when killed so they don't show on top pilots list. You might see him as listed as killed on the one of the combat reports at the end of the turn it happened if you've saved them.

this happens mainly with unit leaders. YOu might rerun the turn - escape out of the animation and you can see the people shooting down planes, but you might not see who is shot down. Sometimes shot down pilots will show up in the OPS report - but again, usually only if it is a leader...

Dont think he was killed. AVG wasnt in combat when I noticed it. Will look back through the saves though on the off chance.

Do you hsve saves from immediately before the losses occurred? (Saves from afterwards are not useful...)

What are these scenarios? Big B? [&:]

I have all the saves from both those games from turn 1, both incomming and outgoing.

Game 13 is me as allies scen 115 on ABs map.

Game 15 is me as Japs, scen 155 2 day turns on ABs extended map.

But the scenarios and maps shouldnt have any bearing on pilots / planes leaking.

Maybe not - but usually have to have the correct maps, mods installed to make the thing run right. i can try replicating it on vanilla WITP to see what happens if you like... let me know if you want to try it. Otherwise, i'll have to try installing the mod and running it - but this might take a day or so.

If you like, PM me and i'll send you my email address (be sure to give details of the affected units (locations).

EDIT - be sure to send PW as well...

i've been advised it should work well enough to run under vanilla... so go ahead and send me the turn and pw to rtrapasso @gmail.com (omit space - just put in to fool webcrawling smambots) - i'll look for it later today (off to run errands).

Update on the pilot thing. 12/25 the missing pilot with 6 kills showed up assigned to the 49th fighter group on the west coast. The 49th has never been off the west coast. The pilot only has 77 experience and only 1 mission, so I would think it odd if he was "rotated".

Ok here's a couple of things that might have happened, pilot was wounded at some point then original group was filled with enough planes/pilots when he became available so he was put in pool & taken by 49th which was short pilots. I've seen something similar in my games & a pilot with kills shows up in a transport unit instead of the FG or BG he should've been in. This may be just a guess as something else may be going on but I think it may also have to do with equalling pilots out in under/over strength units so anything handled by computer (like setting AI to run a sector) is squirrelly. This was something in one of the last few patches to keep units from building up so many experienced pilots while others go understrength or have to use from pool to fill out.

WIAs show on the pilot display. The AVG has never been full of planes OR pilots, so this is out. Has to be in the rotate routine somewhere.

Edit and the 49th is a brand new unit. Comes into the game with full 72 planes and pilots. When it came out, he wasnt in the 49th. Was after the fact.
