Soviet Experts Appeal

Post by el cid again »

I am about to freeze RHS development in the broader sense (not saying we might not do things like create a
AI oriented scenario, a mini-scenario, or seasonal maps). We now know how many slots are open (not many).

IS there any SIGNIFICANT Soviet unit missing in the RHS OB (any scenario will do - all are identical)? The earlier the more likely we care about it (for deterrence value and, if deterrence fails, for combat value, early in the war).

Is there any case we have a unit in the wrong location?

Is there any case we have a unit with the wrong equipment?

Note that many units change names - or are part of other units - and so it can be tricky to know which is meant?
But in general we are using the earlier name for any given formation - at least if we understand that. Which also brings us to the question:

Is there any case we have a duplicated unit due to such name changes? [We have had this in the past]

Hello Cid,
Although I am not an 'expert' on the far east front, I do know the 'Eastern Front" quite well.

While the infantry forces on the Far Eastern Fronts were considered to be 'elite' troops, many if not most of these 'elite' troops had been sent west by September 1941 being replaced by new and untrained conscripts(Infantry force level totals changed very little over the times). In some references it is stated that anyone who could hold a rifle was conscripted to fill out these units. Because of this I had many problems with the original database, while you have done much to rectify this(lowering the soft value from 39 for instance) I really dont feel they deserve the 65-70 Exp and morale given to them. A few months training with the professional cadres simply shouldnt compare to Anzac or others. But then again I don't believe the unblooded USMC deserves 85's either(I had better duck now [;)]).

Also these 'elite' generally did not have the most modern equipment( since the Japanese supposedly didnt have modern equipment the older stuff was considered adequate), specifically armor and aircraft. In my OOB searchs I have never seen any reference to any KV-1s being employed in the far east until much later in the war and I am certain that no t34's were present (which you thankfully had removed). There should be around 1000 tanks(you currently have 770 unless armored cars count) and 1000 combat aircraft(currently 796) and i believe around one half were fighters (currently around 25%) also I cant seem to find reference to Il-2's in use in the Far east.

Just some thoughts, I know far east OOBs can be hard to come by(at least for me so far). Anyway, thanks for the fantastic efforts you have put forth on adding so much to this game.

There is probably a lot of work do be done in the deep data. There are vast numbers of fields - set by no one knows whom - to all sorts of standards - for good or not so good reasons.

I select a topic, define a standard, and systematically work it - ignoring what has not been looked at yet.

It would be nice to have a comprehensive review of things like experience - which more or less I have left in its CHS form - believing that was better done than stock. We could apply it across the board - in a long period - because so much time would be needed to enter it (18 times in the case of RHS).

We probably do not have all the Soviet units. I stipulate that. I have added many. And we lack the slots to put in all of them. I think we have every tank brigade - the first mod to do that I know about. I think we have the early formations in their early form as well. I am not sure about the KV - but I used what the Soviets say is their TO&E - pending hard unit data. I found no T-34s - to they only appear later in the war.
