My Initial Thoughts on UFO:ET

Post by jaguth »

First of all, I would like to say that UFO:ET is beautiful, suspenseful, and the best X-Com-like game i've played since the original.

That said, there quit a few bugs and some game play mechanics that, in my opinion, don't work as well as the author(s) may have intended it to be. I don't know, thats why I am posting here. Below are some bugs and gp-mechanics i'm talking about:

Scientists & Mechanics: I start with 10, but how do I get more? The instruction booklet talks about how to build a laboratory, but it doesn't say anything about how to obtain more scientists. I remember that the original X-Com instruction booklet was a freakin bible!

Alt-Tab: I Alt-Tab to do something in Windows, then I Alt-Tab back into the game and the debug text automatically enables itself. This is acceptable for a beta game, but not for commercial release; allow the user to use the tilda (~) to view/unview verbose messages. Is there a way to disable this? Or turn it off when it turns itself on?

Bullet-Time-Save: You know, the button that automatically stops your soldier from moving when you loose a certain amount of time points, so that you can save a shot during the alien's turn.

Okay, those are all I can remember at the time, and i'm also getting hungry so i'm going to have to rap this up. but i'll be back for my next update, same bat time, same bat channel.

G'day jaguth and welcome to the forums[:)] to answer your questions:
Scientists & Mechanics: I start with 10, but how do I get more? The instruction booklet talks about how to build a laboratory, but it doesn't say anything about how to obtain more scientists. I remember that the original X-Com instruction booklet was a freakin bible!

You get 10 Scientists or Mechanics automatically when you build a lab or workshop, you can only get more when you build more..
Or turn it off when it turns itself on?

never had this problem, although make sure the game resolution is the same as your desktop.
Bullet-Time-Save: You know, the button that automatically stops your soldier from moving when you loose a certain amount of time points, so that you can save a shot during the alien's turn.

There isn't one in the vanilla game but there are a couple of mods that do this. FrankenMod is probably the best to get as it's the easiest to install and contains the most features.Go to http://www.ufo-extraterrestrials.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2 to have a look.
