Basic Question - Depth

Post by BK6583 »

I understand the functions and interplay of setting a unit's or formation's frontage. What I still don't get is what does depth do? If I set depth to say 600 meters, vice 300, for a battalion that's assaulting, will this keep the battalion HQ further back for example?

Can I suggest that you start a scenario up like First Clean Break as the Germans. These start off out of contact at the top of the map. Just experiement with these forces giving them attack orders with different variations on the frontage and depth and note what happens. Don't have them actually attack a known enemy but rather some unoccupied location where the enemy cannot interfere with your forces.

That way you can see the effects of the different variations.
