Randomness and Replayability?

Post by Adam Parker »

Someone on another forum mentioned that it seems that the AI Task Groups in this new version of CaW never change but in the old CaW that would.

Therefore in a scenario if you locate a carrier or as someone here pointed out, even come across a TG with a certain number of ships you'll know everytime what that TG comprises.

Was a degree of AI randomness left out of the new CaW engine by accident? Is there any randomness other than where the AI will appear?

Thanks,
Adam.

The searchplanes often wildly exaggerate both the number of ships in a taskgroup, and their value (often mistaking all big ships for carriers). This is especially true for early sighting reports (sightings with less than 2 or 3 reports). This makes it even harder in scenarios like Coral Sea, where the japanese have a light carrier taskgroup that is easily mistaken for the main carrier group.

That is very true, i got a sighting on a large carrier group in the Coral Sea scenario so i sent both CV TG's after them. It turned out it was the 12 vessel Port Moresby invasion force instead[X(], i thought "oh, how fortunate"...well that didn't last long...the "real" carrier force was behind it and wiped out both my TG's while my American pilots were trying to hit the transports! Game over Man! Game Over![:D]
I have had many different outcomes from both sides with Coral Sea, Midway and Wake. I've played three or four scenarios at least 5 times each with never the same result. Maybe the same victory level, but it played out completely different. You never know where the enemy is going to show up, but they are almost always close by when you are NOT looking for them LOL!

As Alex has said, there's plenty of randomness. I played a game once where my pilots spotted 8 different Japanese TGs containing a a carrier. Try making sense of that lot. Just counting the numebr of ships won't help, they are usually wrong about that too.
