One bug and a few minor UI issues.

Post by CapnDarwin »

First off I have to say that I'm loving the new game. I played CAW and CCAW to death and this new version is is a lot of fun. I did notice a couple of minor issues and a bug. The bug is in surface combat. I was playing the Wake island scenario from the Japanese side and got my crusier group in range of the US resupply group. The US destroyers faded out which I assume is the fleed scene of old. Before my forces could close on the hapless transport my big ships (CA's) took hits. This happened 3 times. I started looking for a missing US ship or something. It was like I was getting tagged at point blank range from the "fleeing" DD's.

I've seen a few UI issues too.
1. My tooltips are not very stable. They flicker in and out a few times before "sticking" and even then they don't stay even with my hand off the mouse (optical).
2. The green highlight glow around the Japanese Kamakazi class DD's is shifted off to the left of the ship side view in the task force screen when that class of boat is selected.
3. In the info box in the bottom right of the main screen when viewing a ship, the text extends beyond the "window" for it. I'm on 1280 by 1024 res.
4. I've also seen some other text runover/beyond the text box window edges. Pearl Harbor scenario had that issue with info on the right hand side boxes near the top.
5. Damage animations on the top and side screens is out of sync at times or pops on abruptly as target ships switch intot he bottom side view box during an attack.
6. While switching between the map screen and other deatil screens, the range circles and destination dot fail to update to the selected task forces new location when jumping back to the map when time has moved forward.

A possible bug. I was unable to scuttle a badly damaged CA in my force during the Wake Island scenario. I know detachment is a scenario design thing but I though I could scuttle any badly damaged ship. What criteria is required for a ship to be scuttled?

A suggestion. It would be nice to see a message of "Critical Hit" or "Secondary Explosions Seen" during an attack to know that something really good or bad (depending on who is giving or getting). Even a "flight deck full" to indicate a carrier caught in ready operations.

Another suggestion. It would be nice to see some kind of air to air/cap dialog (with pictures) giving the results (fog of war included) of a clash. I also miss the bomb dropping sound and little animation when a base was attacked. The info on the ordinance dropped is a nice addition.

Thanks for a great game! [&o]

Hi Darwin,

1. I'll look into it. I've mentioned on another thread (cant find it right now) that one of our testers with an optical mouse had problems with the help text occasionally being hidden without moving the mouse so i'll have to check in to see if there are some kind of extra mouse events being captured by the program.

2. We'll look into that. May just have to move the highlight a few pixels on the template.

3. Which ship in particular has this problem (and in which scenario/warroom)? If you could send us a screenshot that would be helpful - support@ssg.com.au

4. Again a screenshot would be great. I'll see if i can reproduce it on this end.

5. Not exactly sure what your explaining here - are you able to send through a save game where i could run the clock and the next attack showed the problem?

6. I'll look into this.

My main computer with the code is packed away awaiting our move at the moment, but from memory i think you need 6 damage or more to be eligable to scuttle a ship. If you have a save game where this is not the case, send it though and i'll check it out.

There are definitely critical hits in the game (especially with torpedo attacks), so we'll look into giving some more info about this. The CAP report is something else we will look about working into the game.

Alex,

Thanks. I'll try to grab some screenshots of the graphics items tonight. As for the scuttle I think the boat had 4 boxes left and was less then 1/2 group speed.

Good luck with the move.

Alex,

I have 2 new bugs. I'll post some screens of items this evening.

1. Damaged bombers (level, US) that showed being damaged (1pt, 2pt) were animated as if they were destroyed when atttacking a carrier group. Up to that point only ones indicated as shot down did I see "blow up" on screen.

2. When playing Coral Sea scenario and zooming in on Port Moseby to max zoom, may screen turned red. I have a screen shot that I'll crop and post this evening.

Hi Darwin,
All moved in (though still getting up to speed with getting my office sorted out) so I'll try to reproduce these on this end. The red screen sounds odd - have you updated your graphics drivers recently? These sorts of graphical glitches are often solved by getting the latest drivers.

Ok, a small update
5. Have you managed to get a save game where this happens?
6. Im not able to reproduce this - the strike radius is updated every time the map is shown. Are you on a specific screen when this occurs?
New bugs
1. Have you got a save where this occurs?
