Please pardon a slightly off-topic post from this familiar face ... I am working on a book called WORLD WAR II AND THE GLOBAL WAR TERROR and I am starting to write (and post) sections here at

At the risk of sounding controversial, one easy parallel to draw between the lead-up to WWII and the GWoT, is the bombing of the Reichstag in 1933. This is not to say that the Bush administration planned to bomb our own buildings, but rather, that they have capitalized on it in a more subdued, but still familiar, way.
