They work best when disbanded... it is a matter of debate if they work at all when in a TF (either docked or undocked).
RE: Undocked, Docked or Disbanded
Hi-Ref.rtrapasso's reply, I've had AS work fine at a port when TFs cannot disband, due to size of port.
Example, in scen. 15, playing as Allies, latest v, in early '42 I've put an AS at Attu, in a TF, docked. My subs returning from patrol DO have their torps replentished.
Hope this works for you. Hugh Browne

Ooops - sorry - i was referring to their REPAIR functions - the other functions (replenishment for AS, AD, support in the case of AVs) work fine if docked (as long as enough supplies are present.)

I suppose the same is true for replenishment from MLE and AE.
I understand that in WiTP, AE can replenish at sea, but this is NOT true for War Plan Orange? Anyone know if this is true for certain?

AE resupply at sea beginning of '45 iirc and then I believe only for the allies. Before that they only work at base hexes.
Ack on the MLE.

If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

I think AE can only resupply ammo for 5"ers or less while at sea; and only in 1945 or later.

iirc, it is (all) AA ammo up to 5"ers...

AR works the same whether docked or disbanded to my knowledge.

RE: Undocked, Docked or Disbanded
If a ship has some damage, but needs to go back to a solid port, what is the best kind of ship to escourt it? A DD, or would an AR be even better? I realize being as scarce as they are having an AR to escourt damaged ships might not be the best use of it, but I wonder if it would help a ship that was in risk of not getting home?

as mentioned, AR won't repair while at sea. The best ship to escort with is LOTS of ships [;)]. Make sure you change the TF type to "escort" otherwise the auto-divide routine for crippled ships will divorce the cripple from the majority of it's escort.

RE: Undocked, Docked or Disbanded
sorry to butt in on Sparrow's question but do AR not in a shipyard repair any sys damage or does it just help stop flooding?
RE: Undocked, Docked or Disbanded
ARs help with both

I just lost the BB Pensylvania to flooding and she had 4 AR's docked at a size 2 port. So i don't believe AR's help at all unless disbanded into the port with the damaged ship.
Ironically the port expanded to a 3 the same darn turn [;)]
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit

I believe a programmer confirmed some time ago that ARs (and ADs/ASs) must be disbanded in port to work.ORIGINAL: Rob Brennan UK
