The more I play it, the more I like it

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

This game sort of grows on you. And I have to give Matrix credit for achieving the right balance of simplicity and depth.

Thanks Rob I always find your comments so helpful [8|]. Just for the record everyone should thank the developer they did and are doing a great job. But I would like to point out for those who are less informed that we did playtest the game and give input into the development of the game. Matrix does more then just slap a label on a project. We provide testing, sound effects, music, art and much more when asked to by the developer.

I normally don't reply to such misinformed comments but this is not the first time that Rob has made such comments.

The vast majority of credit on this one should go to Johan (Firepower) and Slitherine, but as Dave notes we do a lot more than publish when it comes to most of our releases. Some developers need or want less assistance or involvement than others, we let each one determine what he's most comfortable with.

Well Mr. Heath, whatever you are doing, keep it up. I have been very pleased by what y'all are doing up there at Matrix, releasing so many great titles lately. I sure do think you are doing a fine job Sir. BTW, how's that new family of yours? Great I hope. It sure gets easier when they can hold their own bottle....then they become teenagers. Sigh.

Anyhow, this average gamer notices your hard work and appreciate the choices we now have.

No its not an odd comment from me at all. Slitherine did the majority of work on this product.. I dont work for them and am in no way associated with them. But I do think that the developer should be thanked and rewarded for the hard work that they do. I also appreciated that this and many other games may not have reached such a wide audience if it wasnt for Matrix Publishing this and other fine products. My thanks to go to Matrix and Slitherine by my purchasing this game (even though I dont know if its the game for me).. but on a whole - I think the majority of the thanks for good products should go to the developers. Thats not to say that Matrix and other publishers dont deserve their thanks.. they do too. But if it wasnt for the developers they wouldnt have as many products to publish.

Im sorry if you take offence to my posts which make sure developers receive thanks also David. I would have though that you would have been equally supportive of my posts which ensure that they dont go without praise also.

Hi!

Should I buy this game? I have SC 2 and waiting for the expansion weapon and warfare. I like the screenshots in this game and the casualties screen there I can see my loses/kills. Unfortunately I can´t see this in SC 2. It is possible to edit the campaign days like in SC 2?

ps. I´m a fanatic in WWII games.

It's true that Matrix are not that involved in the development of the project but without people like Matrix it would be very hard for some of these games to be possible as there would be no way for many developers to get in contact with you players, especially the smaller new developers. It's a good partnership so no there is need to knock Matrix as everybody wins! :)

[:)]Well i thank you all! I had no idea how fun and addicting Commander:Europe At War could be[X(], it took my beloved Panzer General and added a few ingenious twists along with the modern tweaks and eye candy. Somehow i wouldn't be suprised if this "Johan" didn't fritter away his youth(like i did) playing Panzer General[;)]. It really doesn't get any better than this...unless...well, we could use a Sister game in the Pacific[8D]. This game is made for the Pacific and all it's naval warfare[&o]. Just a thought...[:D]

I understand where Rob is coming from.  I've often seen titles associated with publishers and seen developers get pretty much ignored; in saying that, I'm speaking primarily of big budget games.  For better or worse, the publisher tends to be the public face.  I know Matrix has high standards and I truly feel that they love and support the games they produce.  And you definitely can't say that about a lot of publishers.

Hi Rob

I will be the first to say we the developers should get the lion share of the glory. We do not hide the developers behind our backs an just promote something has a Matrix title. We promote our developers and if they have one their web their sites. We go to the extra mile to make sure they are getting credit for the projects they do. My issue is not so much with what you a claiming your goal is but the way you are going about this. Its also not been the first time this has happened. From my point of view it looks like a smack at Matrix as you cover it by singing praises of the developers. In the past I have said nothing but felt it was time I cleared the air. From my point of view you could have said the same thing without the "don't thank Matrix" comment and got the same results. Most developers and publishers understand that they both need each other to make for everyone and Matrix understands this more then most.

Rob thank you for saying your sorry and I do support your view on developer getting their share of the credits but in this and a few times in the past I do not think it was handle in the best possible way.

David

Hi Jbunnelle

Yes I do understand this as well. I just feel you can do that without taking shots at the publisher. We have to be doing something right to have so many developers signed and staying with us over the last 7 years. I feel we do a good job getting them coverage and getting/giving them credit. This is one of the reasons we have our developers here on our forums so you can get the lastest directly from them.

I went ahead and bought the game this morning and boy, am I glad I did. This is going to fit together nicely with Forge of Freedom when I don't have much time to think out a complicated turn. Us gamers really needed a good beer and pretzel game, and this is certainly a welcome addition. Just enough depth to keep it moving along nicely without being bland. Good job guys.
